2025-26 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

I think you are right. MLSE won't rebuild at this time. Matthews is under contract. So they'll give it a shot for playoff revenue. I think it drags out to when they can truly contend again. Draft year 2014 1st round #8 Nylander 2015 1st round #4 Marner 2016 1st round #1 Matthews That gave them...

2025-26 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

But this is what you said: That criticizes the core 4 players, doesn't it? "They could not afford anything else." is on the GM much more than the players. Those players contracts were close to being in line with the league and their signing circumstances. Covid bit the GM's plans - that was...

2025-26 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Before Woll & Stolarz, they had Campbell, Samsonov & Andersen as their goalies since 2016. I suppose any goalie could get hot but I do not see any of them as likely to be Cup caliber. Only one of them is left in the NHL. When I last checked, you have to have good goaltending. Further to that...

2025-26 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

The Leafs 3.60 GAA, 2nd worst in the league, is their worst GAA in the last 33 years Their top 7 D and 2 goalies are signed up for next year as are most of the forwards. The top 4 D are 33 or more next season signed up for years beyond that. Not only do they need to acquire players because their...

    sens vs. Leafs - Apr. 15th, 7:30pm - SN

No but it wasn't easy to listen to. After big Leafs moments, I have sought to find Bowen's call - like it is incomplete unless you hear it

I still remember Foster Hewitt's Leafs broadcasts A little homer goes a long way: Joe Bowen's been my favorite

    sens vs. Leafs - Apr. 15th, 7:30pm - SN

All these years watching the Leafs and I can't recall hoping they would lose before. At least I didn't watch it - they've been unwatchable for some time. Team currently has 2nd worst GAA in the league

Thank you CarltonTheBear I couldn't stand to watch much of the games since the deadline but I didn't miss a Game Day thread. :)

2025-26 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

As has been said, they have their own 3rd & 5th. They have another team's 2nd, 4th, 5th & 6th. Having a pick is obviously better than not having it. But only 2 picks have the benefit of how low they finished - to sprinkle a little more salt on the wound. Hopefully, they can get that top 5 pick.

Coaching and management changes around the league

I can easily see Shanahan being hired. Treliving having Calgary & Toronto teams wind up in the toilet and not being a guy who embraced hockey data are three pretty bad strikes against him. Berube is probably a coach with a short wick relative to others.

2025-26 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

I think he's pretty much there for negotiations. His ice time is well down compared to most of those around him in goal scoring. I'm sure his agent will point that out. He's had some puck luck in Seattle. But they gave him top 6 minutes with some good players and he responded with 8 goals in 13...

    John Tavares: HOF?

There are about 300 male hockey players in the HHoF. There are tiers of 'greatness' To me, 300 means we got great ones down to very good ones. Not all of them are "great" Howe, Orr, Gretzky, Lemieux and arguably others are in the top tier Sundin & Salming would arguably be in the top 100 along...
