There was no way that Chayka (and Sundin) were going to bring him back. Dawn of a new era for the Leafs. Hopefully some rejuvenated optimism for the franchise after frittering away the last decade with the Matthews/Marner/Nylander era.

Keep the pick and draft McKenna. Nylander and Matthews will be 30 and 29, respectively, at the start of next season. At this point I'm more considering moving one or both of them for a defenceman and/or a haul of prospects and picks. It's a dawn of a new era and McKenna is going to be the one...

To me it's a no-brainer to take McKenna and forge a new path for the franchise forward. Whether Matthews stays or goes, or however long he remains a Leaf, we now have someone right behind him to carry the team into its next phase when need be.

I have figured all along that any POHO candidates have been in discussion with GM candidates in conjunction. I really don't think it's a matter of getting a POHO solely in office first, then moving on to the next step of filling the GM position. This franchise lost its way once Pelley came...

Going with Gillis as GM is such a disastrous option. Instilling him as POHO however I can get convinced to get behind.

Why he eliminated the president position across all MLSE teams I will never understand. Sure, they saved millions of dollars -- tens of it. But he's not the guy I want the GMs going directly to and bouncing ideas off of. I really hope he realizes the err of it and restores the position...
