What’s interesting is how harshly people are judging said season with some exaggerated comparisons to a third-line center.
Yeah I'm pretty sure nobody has done this.

Maybe some loudmouths on radio call-in shows, morons on Twitter, or haters on other message boards.Yeah I'm pretty sure nobody has done this.

When you give out NTC and no move clauses like candy at haoolwe'en, the no accountability is built inWhats wrong with Matthews now or over the past 8 years?
Whats wrong with Matthews over the past 8 years is he normally is ambivalent and was coddled in an organization that gave him top pay without demanding perseverance towards winning. That is, winning wasn't a "must" in the culture. So whenever situations require that extra 5% to persevere over opponents, he and his teammates can't summon up the extra drive.
But the pay is still tops in the league. The sponsorships are still tops in the league. The fan adulation is tops in the league.
Yet the team results don't match that. And others of Matthews ilk have carried the team on their back to win series after series. Which Matthews has not done.
Yet.
NTCs are fine. NMCs? Never again. When you give out NTC and no move clauses like candy at haoolwe'en, the no accountability is built in
All the high end guys will always get NMCs. That's standard practice now. What you don't do is give NTCs to your secondary players like Domi, Kampf, Jarnkrok.NTCs are fine. NMCs? Never again.
If the Leafs want to build a future with real flexibility, they need to draw a hard line: no more no-move clauses. Full stop. You can give a guy a limited no-trade to offer some peace of mind, but the team needs the ability to pivot when things go sideways. A 10-team list keeps the door cracked open — players get some control, but they also know the situation isn’t locked in stone. That’s how you build a contender: leverage, not handcuffs.
If they're RFA then the negotiations going forward have to be better than what we've had in the past. All the high end guys will always get NMCs. That's standard practice now. What you don't do is give NTCs to your secondary players like Domi, Kampf, Jarnkrok.
NMCs should be reserved for the absolute slam-dunk untouchable players. On this team that's Matthews. All the high end guys will always get NMCs. That's standard practice now. What you don't do is give NTCs to your secondary players like Domi, Kampf, Jarnkrok.
What they should be reserved for and who gets them are two different stories. You need a NMC to usually sign higher end UFAs. Tanev, JT.NMCs should be reserved for the absolute slam-dunk untouchable players. On this team that's Matthews.
Money wise, yes. The NMCs weren't out of the norm when our RFAs signed their 2nd deals. If they're RFA then the negotiations going forward have to be better than what we've had in the past.
Who else got them as RFAs?Money wise, yes. The NMCs weren't out of the norm when our RFAs signed their 2nd deals.
The NHL is weird this way compared to other leagues. Nick Jensen just had surgery for "lower body issue".Why don’t we get an injurry listing like every other team in the league does post playoffs? I guess he was fine and just a overpaid loser
McDavid, Crosby, Malkin, Pasta, Barkov, B Tkachuk, Stamkos, Hedman, Tavares, Toews, Kane, Getzlaf, Perry all had NMCs in year 5, the final year for most, of their 2nd deal. Malkin had a NMC in all 5 years. Tavares signed a 6 year deal and had protection the last 2. McD/Tkachuk got theirs in years 5-8. Marner/Pasta/Barkov protection in years 5,6. Matthews in year 5. Willy only had a M-NTC in year 6 of his deal so Dubas only handed out 2 NMCs in years 5 to the Leafs elite, again pretty normal for your high end stars.Who else got them as RFAs?

Is it really any of our business? It's not and say Matthews has back issues, that will never go away likely so why tell your opponents about it? He didn't miss 15 games for nothing. Clearly he was hurt most of the year. Why don’t we get an injurry listing like every other team in the league does post playoffs? I guess he was fine and just a overpaid loser
