Rantanen Signs 6 years, $9.25 AAV

No, they would still be in LTIR and wouldn't be able to acrue cap space as the year went on.  However, they wouldn't have to run 20/21-man rosters once Hyman returns.  So you are half-correct.

https://twitter.com/CapFriendly/status/1178686438906454016 Even closer than what that guy tweeted. Also, Liljegren on the roster still is for cap/LTIR calculation reasons AND if they wanted to claim someone on waivers he could be sent down tomorrow without having to clear waivers.

    Auston Matthews

I think offering support for your teammate support in the media doesn't mean the person condones the act.  I don't think you need to take the tough love approach in the media- that can and should happen behind the scenes.  Without a doubt having that sort of honest conversation is definitely...

Marner signs 6 year, $10.893mil AAV contract

And its a cap hit that actually eats into Carolina's cap space- had they not traded Faulk they would have been over the cap.  Arizona had tons of cap space in 2016-2017 they weren't using on their roster (as they were a budget team).

Marner signs 6 year, $10.893mil AAV contract

I agree with all of the above.  And I'll add one more thing: I think its going to be a hell of a lot easier to get mid-tier players on "steal" contracts.  Ultimately, there are a heck of a lot more mid-tier players to go around and if you treat your stars well and you put out a contender every...

    Pre-season: Canadiens @ Leafs - Sept. 25th, 7:00pm - TSN4, TSN 1050

The performance bonus part is not used to calculate the CAP HIT the player has during that season.  Example:  2017-2018 Cap Calculations https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/mapleleafs/cap-tracker/2018 Marner, Matthews, and Nylander only have their signing bonus and salary shown in the cap hit...

Tkachuk signs bridge deal [3 years, $7mil AAV]

Its funny you say that because last season they would have been considered overpays.  Remember, Nylander got a similar cap hit for SIX years, not THREE.

Performance bonuses would be pushed to next year.

    Faulk to St. Louis

Yeah, I was going by memory based on the tweet I added.  It goes back 5 years, which includes his biggest point producing year.  Don't get me wrong, I think he's overpaid.

    Faulk to St. Louis

Probably because he's like 4th in (Edit: PP) goals for defensemen in that span.  Doesn't have the assists, but goals are a premium. https://twitter.com/BBarts/status/1176559530873892865

I could see them going with Jarry.  Financially it makes sense as his 675k cap hit is LESS than Hutch and allows us to upgrade from Holl for the 7th D/21st roster spot when healthy.  Numbers wise, he seems pretty equal to Hutch.

Whenever I watch Moore play I see him do the same thing as Kapanen- transport the puck from dzone to ozone.  He's the main reason why the 4th line had great possession numbers when he was in the lineup- doing exactly that.  Kapanen would likely take better advantage than Moore at having such...

Marner signs 6 year, $10.893mil AAV contract

Completely agree, I'm not trading a forward to make them both fit.  That's why I handicapped the chance of getting BOTH at 0.1%.  Basically, they have 16M to spend on 6 D-men (assuming cap rises 2M, a little conservative compared to current estimate). They'd both be taking under-market deals for...

Marner signs 6 year, $10.893mil AAV contract

I would think Dubas would probably be fine with losing Muzzin in the expansion draft if he managed to keep both Barrie and Muzz next season (on like the 0.1% chance it happens).  Gets to have Muzz in the lineup for one more season and then another team absorbs his long term deal as he begins to...

Marner signs 6 year, $10.893mil AAV contract

Or use a bunch of ELC/Cheap D-men: Rielly - Dermott (3M) Sandin - Barrie (8M) Marincin (750k) - Liljegren Would work, for instance.  Highly unlikely we can keep both of Barrie and Muzzin.  PS I put very little thought into the above.  I'm sure an upgrade on Marincin could be had.  Muzzin...

    Point signs 3-year bridge deal

Have you seen their Capfriendly? They, like the Leafs, have 8-9 players on their projected roster on ELC/sub $1M deals. What's interesting is the allocation of dollars:  All of Tampa's mid-tier forwards are between 4.5M - 5.5M each.  All of Toronto's are between 2.25M and 3.5M.  I personally...

His name is GoatWhisperer- I'd question his sagacity. (But he's right that Ceci should be moved well before any of Hyman, Mango, Kappy)

Training Camp Thread - Currently with Marner now

Goatwhisperer is right.... I made a mistake above and had Marner's vanity cap hit incorrect. Only way to have a 21 player roster with Sandin, Hyman, and Dermott is to have Goat as the 12th F and Holl as the 7th D.  (Unless you demote Mickey or Moore and bring in a cheaper forward, then you can...
