    2025 Offseason Thread: Spring Cleaning

Of the two, I'd prefer Brazeau. He doesn't appear to need an unsustainable shooting percentage to contribute - though, he doesn't provide as much of a physical impact as Jeannot. I'll take the extra depth offence/ability to move up in the lineup over the extra hits.

    2025-26 General Trades & Signings

I don't take any denials coming out a GM's mouth at this time of the year completely seriously. Things move fast and change frequently. Not saying it will happen, but denials ring pretty hollow - especially from Vegas.

They obviously still need to shed some cap, but this trade effectively brought in replacements for Hague and Roy (downgrades, but not necessarily massive ones). There have been a lot of rumblings about them also trying to move Hertl. I guess we'll see.

    2025 NHL Draft thread

Nope. Any professional contract makes them ineligible. They have previously considered the CHL leagues to be professional, but the recent agreement between the two associations changes that moving forward (though, only for D1 schools). https://www.collegehockeyinc.com/ncaa-eligibility/

Knies extended [6 years, $7.75mil AAV]

With the way I expect the market to go, I wouldn't be shocked if he did get $2M+. If Frederic gets close to $4M, a healthy Jarnkrok is a ~$2M player - even if he only produces around his average season.

Guess Hague’s not part of the Marner trade (if it happens). Though, at that AAV, I’m okay with that.

If he signs, he can’t go NCAA. He’d have to go to junior.

Knies extended [6 years, $7.75mil AAV]

Leafs get an extra year, Knies gets a little more coin. Little something for everyone.

Knies extended [6 years, $7.75mil AAV]

    Not unreasonable.

Maybe. I think it’s more likely they go the Tampa route - still good, but not deep playoff run good.

    2025-26 General Trades & Signings

He plays hard, sure, but that shooting percentage is unsustainable and, once that regresses, even his playoff performances won’t justify the contract - and if the league ever decides to start enforcing the rules in the playoffs, then it will just be a boat anchor.

    Idiocracy 2024

It goes deeper than that. It’s been a decline that started with Nixon, was accelerated by Reagan’s “moral majority,” and pushed to the breaking point since W.

His value is actually higher now than it’s been for a few years. He’s finally tradeable again.

    2025-26 General Trades & Signings

He won’t be able to maintain the 20% shooting percentage he’s put up over his last two playoffs. Once that goes, who knows how he’ll be seen with this contract.

    Certainly feels that way.

    2024-25 NHL Thread

The players have a hand in this, too. Who knows, they might have even been the ones to put this forward. Maybe going from getting paid in full by one team to being split between three wasn’t well liked. Either way, it’s the fans that lose.

    2025 NHL Draft thread

I don’t know if there is a good format, but only the NHL has things move this slowly.

    2024-25 NHL Thread

This is going to complicate things. Leave it to the NHL to make things that fans enjoy less likely to happen.
