I'm obviously grasping at straws here - looking for reasons to remain invested in a group of players who don't seem to be invested in themselves. A group I'm finding increasingly unlikeable.

Weirdly, Matthews being out might be the only thing that gets me to tune in for the next game. In the past, they've generally raised their play level when he is out of the lineup. Might be the little extra push that is required to get the group back on the same page, get the compete level up...

Well, yeah. "Officially" miss games but you are correct. I almost wrote something like that in my original post.

My comment was meant as a joke but it is true, the Leafs do not have a single player in the lineup that other teams need to fear.

No idea if Matthews will miss games, but Leafs have generally done OK when he is out. Maybe that kind of adversity will help galvanize them.
