I guess that makes sense?  It was probably the coaching staff that was at fault and not the abysmal roster.

Didn't deserve it. If anything Nolan got more wins out of that group than management maybe wanted. I do wonder if McDavid could lure them a big-name coach, some thought they could be in contention for Babcock if that happened.

To be fair I think this is less of a "You did a terrible job" firing and more of a "GM wants to bring in his own guy" firing.

No no Tim Murray thought they'd be much better. Getting rid of any skilled player or goalie was just Murray trying to win!

@BuffNewsVogl:

GM Tim Murray reiterates that he didn't see Sabres as a 30th-place team and Ted Nolan may have been kept on with better finish, improvements

If I'm one of the three Sabres fans, the scary part of this is that the GM who is supposed to steer the rebuild is completely out to lunch.

He thought adding Gorges, Moulson and Gionta to that gong show was going to get them anything other than a bottom 2 finish.

Yeah, though, I think it's really more of a situation where the coach and the GM don't get along well enough to continue the relationship. I'm sure Murray wants to bring in his own guy, too, but if he and Nolan were closer to being on the same page, he may have been given another season.

He's pretty clearly lying.

No. He's not out to lunch, he's just forced to maintain a fiction. He can't say "I built the team to finish last but I just don't agree with Ted as the solution going forward" because the NHL, despite offering pots of gold for failure, doesn't want anyone to actually admit that.

Not a very classy move IMHO!  >:(

Nolan didn't have much to work with before the trade deadline, and even less after!!!

I hope Murray faces the same fate real soon!
