Avs trade Downie to Philly for Talbot

adater: I'm five minutes from boarding flight to Dallas, but Avs just traded Steve Downie for Max Talbot.

Downie feels like a good fit in the tradition of guys with a screw loose playing for the Flyers, especially since he's done it before.

What a bizarre trade for Colorado. Their biggest strength was scoring depth, and Downie was a big part of that playing on a line with Duchene. And they trade him away for a 4th line centre?

That's a strange trade, Talbot is a great utility guy and playoff performer who signed a good FA deal.

Downie is a head case who has had a good start playing with superior linemates, I think teams win with Talbot.

I don't think Downie was really that big a part of that line's success, but, more than that, it's never a surprise to me when a team gets fed up with a guy like Downie's antics and suspect he may be more liability than asset going forward. Now that they run the risk of losing their starting goalie long-term, it makes perfect sense that they'd try to shore up the defensive side of their game.

It gets harder and harder to care about this team. I can deal with the Richards and Carter trades, there is some logic behind it.
But why in God's name are we getting Downie back?
Holmgren should have been fired years ago

Maybe the head case coach had a problem with the head case player?

An odd one. I was going to guess that the Avs were looking for a little help on the PK and faceoffs and for whatever reason(s), thought Downie was expendable, but they're killing penalties at a 92% clip, and their faceoff percentage is right around 50.
