Thought we could use a thread to keep track of injured Leafs. I threw Clarkson in there too for the heck of it. The other three are all currently on LTIR and will have to miss a minimum of 10 games or 24 days before being able to return. The dates listed on the chart are the earliest they can return, provided that they are healthy.

I'd be curious to know if Kulemin and Fraser are on schedule
to be ready even before the LTIR mandated time is up.

No real word on either yet. Both of their initial prognosises had them returning late October though. McLaren has been skating in the past week and handling pucks so I would imagine he's somewhat on schedule.

It was thought that Kulemin could probably have played with his injury, but he would have risked doing more serious damage, so, he'll probably be ready. Going LTIR really just gives him a little bit extra time to completely recover before he suits up again.

Wasn't the LTIR also a big help in the Cap problem? I mean the Leafs placed those guys on the LTIR pretty quick.

It allowed them to add a player in the short-term, but, long-term, it doesn't help, no. It was kind of necessary to provide some roster flexibility to deal with the injuries - but, it also has to be valid. If the league thinks they're abusing the LTIR option, they can get outside opinions on injuries.

Is JVR really injured? I thought I heard the flu, but Carlyle says upper body.  I wouldn't want JVR out for a while.

From Jonas Siegel:

James van Riemsdyk sat out Tuesday's game with a mysterious upper-body injury. Carlyle wouldn't provide much in the way of details as to the injury, but noted that it did not occur during a game. Since the Leafs had the day off Sunday and the 23-year-old missed practice Monday, one would be led to believe that the injury occurred off the ice.

"We're surprised with what happened," Carlyle said without further explanation.

So I'd say he's considered day-to-day right now. I think people were just speculating that he had the flu since it was going around the NHL a bit and there was no other explanation given at the time.

JVR is on the ice at practice, but skating with a bunch of "extras" - Clarkson, Bodie, McLaren.

EDIT: Departed after 35 minutes.  Might play tomorrow.

The way Carlyle was kinda giggling when he talked about being surprised how it happened, I kinda wondered if it was an Injury picked up during some 'private time'.
