Booth to Vancouver

VanCanucks: Media Release: Canucks acquire David Booth, Steve Reinprecht & 3rd round draft pick in '13 from Panthers in exchange for Samuelsson/Sturm.

Don't get this at all from Florida's perspective. If Van had been the ones sending the pick, then I think it's a fair deal.

Sturm hasn't been the same player for a while now. Sturm - Reinprecht is basically a wash. Sturm might be slightly better. Samuelsson is better now but Booth has higher upside. For that I would've thought Florida gets the pick.

Probably, but Booth hasn't seem to have shown much so far this season.

He hasn't been the same since he came back from that concussion a couple years ago. Still a quality player, but, with his contract, I'm wouldn't call this a clear win for Vancouver. They probably come out ahead, but, Booth has to get back on his game first.

The more I think about it, the more I believe this trade was about Florida unloading what they feel is damaged goods with a hefty, long-term deal (plus not having to pay Reinprecht next season) and Vancouver hoping they can turn Booth back into a 30+ goal scoring winger. Time will tell which GM was right.

Samuelsson and Sturm are both free agents on July 1st too, so they'll have more money to throw around at 2nd and 3rd liners who played a few good games this season.

Apparently Booth and Kesler are very good friends... Also, the cats get two expiring contracts I believe. Good for both teams' plans but Vancouver clearly just got better talent-wise.

Apparently Booth broke down when told he was traded to Vancouver.

I sympathize.

I just read an article substantiating that. Seems he really wanted the hell out of there and can you blame him?
