Campbell to Chicago, 1 yr 2M

Assuming he doesn't now fall off a cliff this is a massive signing for Chicago. They've desperately needed a #3/4 defenceman since Oduya was traded but simply couldn't possibly afford one.

Best case scenario, he's a solid second pairing guy.  Worst case, he bombs as age catches up to him and he's only a 1-year deal.  Good signing.

He comfortably fits the rigorous "better than Trevor Van Riemsdyk" criteria.

I think it's a 1 year deal because he is giving them a massive discount, he could have gotten a lot more elsewhere.

I think it's also expected that there will be a few bonuses here, which would only be eligible on a 1-year deal.

Great price for them, you do wonder at what point his legs start to go though.

I think that's why it was a 1 year deal.

That's not usually how it works. I don't think a 38 year old signs a short term discount deal because he expects to cash in on the next one.
