People have said various things to this extent ever since Montreal's slide began but looking over that lineup top to bottom...it's really not very good. It's a bad group of centers, I'd take our defense 2-6 over theirs, there's certainly not remarkable depth...the idea that they're in the same ballpark as a Washington or Chicago seems nuts in retrospect.

You know, I was watching some hockey broadcasts over the past few weeks, and I really don't care, but, they were characterizing the Bruins - habs rivalry as the habs' biggest rivalry?

I was thinking about it...during this past year and a half (post Carlyle), have the Leafs gone soft?  Do they get up a little earlier in the morning when they play the habs or not?  They're certainly not fighting as much, but that's not really what I'm talking about.  I more talking about whether or not they're a little extra chippy, or aggressive, when playing a traditional rival like the habs, or are they not?

I don't know if you mean exclusively in terms of physical play but I think that in general you still see a fair amount of the sort of tension the games have always had. I remember the game where JVR(?) scord and grabbed the logo in celebration the way Subban did as an example.

Thing is though that all rivalries do diminish if they don't get reinvigorated by specific events/playoff series/whatever and with the Leafs being as bad as they've been/Montreal being fairly mediocre over the same span I think an ebb like that is to be expected. It's the same as Leafs/Sens. If we're not beating them in the playoffs every year, does anyone care about the Senators?

Boston's probably the only team that I genuinely consider a rival right now. Like Nik said, rivalries are generally built and sustained in the playoffs. I get the history and tradition between TOR-MTL, but I have no animosity towards them (their fans on the other hand though...).

Much like the Battle of Ontario.  It has kind of gone into irrelevance as the Leafs tailed off and Ottawa has declined.  You need something to be at stake in the games to be relevant as a rivalry.  It's still nice to beat them but it doesn't carry as much weight.

The Habs and bruins have played so many times against each other in the playoffs. I would agree that they are the Habs biggest rival.

No one cares about regular season... They weren't even in the same conference for 20 some odd years.

Leivo in for Boyes per Siegel.

Clune needs to be in the lineup.  There is no reason for Clune to be in the lineup with Boyes in the press box and Arcobello in the minors.

That was an excellent ceremony.

If you're a Leaf watching that Keon clip, hearing his words about beating the Canadiens, how can that not light a massive fire under you for tonight's game?
