CarltonTheBear said:If Kadri can get back into the 50-60 point range this coming season then I could see him getting something in this ballpark. He won't eclipse Stepan's cap hit but I can see something like $5.75-6.25M.
Nik the Trik said:I can see him asking for and maybe deserving that but I really can't see the Leafs giving him a deal of any significant length like that.

I know what you mean. I could see them buying less UFA years and doing something like 5.25x4 maybe.
Nik the Trik said:Even then. I really have my doubts that they'll look at Kadri and look at the team they want in 3-4 years time and figure that a 28 or 29 year old Kadri is going to be a big part of what they want to build.
I really think this next year is essentially an audition for him for other teams.
CarltonTheBear said:If that's true I think it'll be more because of Kadri as a player than Kadri's birth date. I really don't see guys like Kadri and Gardiner as being too old to be a part of the teams long-term future/plan. But if the team is convinced that Marner and Nylander will be the teams top-2 centres in the near future then yeah there really isn't a reason to have Kadri making over $5mil to be the teams 3C.

pmrules said:I look as Kadri as sort of an insurance policy for one of the top 2 centre spots in case one of Nylander and Marner are just better at their respective wing spots. I mean worse case, what if both Marner and Nylander are better wingers than centres...what then?
Frank E said:They need draft picks, and high ones, to get this rebuild moving. Kadri is a guy that can likely return a great pick if he gets his game more together this year. They need those high picks more than they need a 50 point 25 year-old NHL centre right now.
Good player, but I think the timing is off for the Leafs.
