Dubnyk to Nashville for Hendricks. Scrivens to Edmonton for a 3rd.

EdmontonOilers: #Oilers acquire forward Matt Hendricks from @PredsNHL in exchange for goaltender Devan Dubnyk.

That's gotta be one of the worst trades ever.  Starting goalie for a 4th line centre?

Dominos? Who starts in Edmonton?

I know Dubnyk has had a rough go of things, but that seems like a low price to pay to obtain him.

This also seemingly signifies Rinne is likely out for a while longer.

That's pretty charitable.

I'll be curious to see what he does behind a NHL defence for a change. His last three SA%'s have been .920, .914, .916. I think he can be at least an average starter.

Maybe, but there's a reason they went out and brought in Ilya Bryzgalov of all people.

Combined with this move I think the reason is they just don't know how to value goalies.

With that said I didn't realize Dubnyk was an UFA at the end of the deal. Their season is over and if they didn't plan on bringing him back for some strange reason they may as well have traded him. I just think it's an awful return. But maybe I should keep my mouth shut for when they inevitably steal Reimer from us.

When you consider Dubnyk's reputation, combined with everything else, it's really not all that bad. The Oilers received an NHL player for a guy who has been awful this season and isn't really seen as a starting goalie to anyone other than the Oilers.

That's pretty charitable ;). Preds fans are pretty much saying this is addition by subtraction. Hendricks is an average 4th liner at best really and he's on an awful contract. If they traded for the defenceman equivalent of Hendricks then maybe you could convince me they were at least filling some sort of need, but the Oilers have a ton of 4th liners.

They're also picking up half of Dubnyk's salary apparently. I'd say they would have been better off just letting the contract expire.

So, does this mean the Preds don't feel to good about Rinne coming back this year?... and is Dubnyk now their clear-cut starter?

With still no real timetable for Rinne's return this season, Dubnyk brought in by Preds as stopgap measure....

Absolute best case for Rinne would still probably be something like right after the Olympic break. But yeah nobody really knows. Trotz has also apparently been very unhappy with the goaltending he's received lately so yeah Dubnyk will have every opportunity to be the starter while Rinne is out.

TSNBobMcKenzie: Sounds like Ben Scrivens has been traded from LA to EDM, 3rd round pick headed back to LA.

Well then.

So the 2013-14 Edmonton Oilers are now pretty much a combination of the locked out 2012-13 Toronto Marlies and Oklahoma City Barons teams.

It's good for Scrivens.  If he plays well he'll get a bunch of starts and it could be the difference between a team signing him as a backup and a team signing him to potentially be a 1B goaltender.

Poor Scrivens, he was probably pretty excited to go into free agency with those LA stats behind him.

Him being so articulated, I can not picture him having any sensible discussion with Ilya-freaking-Bryzgalov
