Many a fan's beloved tv Mom, Florence Henderson, otherwise forever known as Carol Brady in the hit family comedy of the '70's era, "The Brady Bunch", sadly passed away yesterday at the age of 82.
To those of us who grew up watching plenty of '70's television, complete with bell-bottoms and strange hairstyles, The Brady Bunch tv series, with it's wholesome family theme, (though try running a large family of six kids plus three adults in one household, and, oh yeah, Tiger the dog), well, it sure ain't goin' to be easy.
Not for Carol Brady. She was the quintessential Mom everyone loves, solving problems in her unique, calming ways. Ah, the good life!
"Unlike real life, the Bradys? problems were always solved in 30 minutes,? Ms. Henderson said in 1990. ?I think that show had a little magic charm about it."
"I think we represented a family who really cared about each other,? she said. ?I think everyone dreams of that, whether they have it or not.?
The Brady Bunch tv series lasted all of six years, but it was not the end of the Bradys, for there were movies and made-for-tv specials thereafter, with the core characters and the original cast members for some.
Florence Henderson was also a singer and she starred in many a Broadway production. She was also the first female host of "The Tonight Show" starring Johnny Carson.
A wonderful career, a genuinely likeable person, and a character that would never be forgotten by her many fans and followers.
"It's the story of a lovely lady" indeed.
R.I.P. and thanks for the memories.
