Leaf playoff news...

We seem to be lacking a general news thread for the Leafs during their playoff run. So here it is....

Goalie Drew MacIntyre has joined the #Leafs at practice on Friday as an emergency recall #TMLtalk

As Busta mentioned in the Marlies thread, it appears it is just for todays practice as Scrivens attends a funeral.

might partially be due to the fact that every bit of news about the leafs seems to be that the season is over..pack up and go home ...

guess no hint at the adjustments for game two yet hm?

Carlyle revamps lines at Leafs practice

Toronto Maple Leafs coach Randy Carlyle shook up his lines at practice Friday ahead of Game 2 of their Eastern Conference quarter-final with the Boston Bruins.

Centre Tyler Bozak was between Phil Kessel and Joffrey Lupul on the first line, while James van Riemsdyk moved to a line with Mikhail Grabovski and Nikolai Kulemin.

Nazem Kadri was with Leo Komarov and Ryan Hamilton, and Jay McClement skated with Clarke MacArthur and Colton Orr.

I don't understand that Kadri line at all.

neither do i ...i was hoping they might slot frattin back in on there..see if they could rekindle a bit of what those two had before frattin's injury earlier in the season...

Jonas Siegel-
Unwise to read much into practice lines. Carlyle rarely (if ever) sticks with combinations heading into games.

That strikes me as a strange way to practice routinely

Carlyle is a bit of an odd ... well, duck.

Yeah.  That's the most bizarre strategy I've heard of in quite a while.

I am not seeing a lot of things in Carlyle that I like ...

Or at least he used to be.  Now he is more of a flaky leaf.

Randy's forward combinations are bewildering.  We have a team that's struggled to hit 20 shots for a few dozen games and his solution is to play Kadri with Komorov.  Bravo.

Yeah, I like Komarov, but he's a 4th line guy. He just doesn't provide enough offence (or any) to play in the top-9. So Kadri's playing with a 4th liner and a career AHLer (sorry Hamilton). That's literally the worst bottom-6 Carlyle could have put together without having people seriously start to question if his intent is to actually win games.

With that said, I like the top-6. Lupul needs to get going and JVR's success lately doesn't really seem to be dependent on Kessel and Bozak. So smart change there.

As for whether or not those lines stick, I think they will. Carlyle said that there would be changes up front. He's not going to re-arrange the lines in practice and then re-arrange them again prior to the game.

Generating offense is optional in the Carlyle system.  Just hope that your goaltender carries you through the game while you play half of it trapped in your own zone.

Unless your name is Jake Gardiner. Then you have to do everything.

I think that's what bothers me the most. Who's the future of this team? Carlyle, or Gardiner and Frattin?

Nonis should step in here.

Why not have lines like this
Jvr-bozak-kessel
Lupol-Kadri-frattin
MacArthur-grabovski-kulemin
Komarov-mcclement-Hamilton/Orr

I would just switch Frattin and Kulemin, but this is exactely the line-up I would dress.

Just figured lupol and frattin with Kadri since those are the two players he seemed to have the most chemistry with
