Leafs 2012/2013 Schedule in 10 game chunks

I did this last season, breaking down the Leafs schedule on a 10 game chunk basis.  I find it easier to sit back and see how they perform over each 10 game stretch, both looking forward and looking back.  I present to you the first 10 games:

Wed, Jan 23 @Pittsburgh
Thu, Jan 24 NY Islanders
Sat, Jan 26 @NY Rangers
Tue, Jan 29 @Buffalo
Thu, Jan 31 Washington
Sat, Feb 2 vs Boston
Mon, Feb 4 vs Carolina
Tue, Feb 5 @Washington

Things to note, first 2 Saturdays are both away games, Montreal and Rangers..neither will be easy.  First Saturday home game is against Boston -- again not easy.  Throw in Pittsburgh once and Washington twice, and the first 10 games could get ugly.  Leafs need to get off on a great start, say 5-6 wins in the first 10, based on this schedule i'm not that hopeful.

I think we can just assume no games will be easy.

But it's also hard to say at this point - the Leafs seemed to do well early last season against some pretty good teams who didn't peak until later in the season.  Maybe that happens again this season.

But it's also going to be a weird season I think, so who knows how teams will play, with some players in mid-season shape, some not, new players on some teams having to gel with others, etc.

That's the big unknown here.  I'm just going off the Leafs traditional tough opponents..Buffalo and Boston are both there, playing in Montreal is always tough..Washington with a new coach and system might be more energized now.  It's all a big crapshoot like you said with no training camps and varying levels of fitness for players around the league.  I just tend to be pessimistic after so many years of being kicked in the groin by this organization.

I am pessimistic due to the roster the leafs will ice.

Buffalo is a traditional nemesis I do not expect much there, they split the Washington games (I predict the loss in Washington as it is second of the back to back games and the Leafs will have to travel), Boston - no doubt there, Mtl, NYI a Car are must wins, otherwise the season is over. Pens game has a potential to be a wild one and may turn out both ways.

Just a thought, but because it's a 48 game schedule, perhaps you should consider doing six 8-game chunks.

who is the sites good luck charm when it comes to making game day threads? Would like to start off on the right foot with the game day opening thread

The pressure on the goaltenders will be astronomical to start the season. Unless you-know-who is acquired, that 2-7-1 sounds pretty damn close to what we can expect. (I really hope we're wrong though!)

Excuse me, I was told there would be no math.

There will be 4 ten game chunks followed by an 8 game chunk. So let it be written...

Look, you people need to settle this out, because I need to know exactly when I'm supposed to panic during the season.
