Game Notes

TOR
?Bernier will likely start for the Leafs
?Komarov will return to the line-up after serving his 3-game suspension
?With Loov sent down to the Marlies, Hunwick seems poised to return to the line-up. Not sure where he plays though. He's back with Rielly on the top pair
?Michalek skated at practice but it seems his debut won't be until next week
?Final game before the trade deadline, and almost certainly the final game as a Leaf for PAP

MTL
?Condon (15-17-0, 2.54 GAA, .904 Sv%) will start for the Canadiens
?Montreal will play their first game since trading away Dale Weiss and Tomas Fleischmann
?Along with those 2 forwards, the Habs are missing 3 of their top-6 defenceman
?You may recognize the name of Greg Pateryn, he was drafted in the 5th round by Toronto in 2008 and traded to Montreal in the Grabovski deal. He's 25 years old, and has 0 points in 37 career NHL games

Injuries

?Stephane Robidas - Old - Out indefinitely
?James van Riemsdyk - Foot - Out for season
?Joffrey Lupul - Lower Body - Out for season

?Milan Michalek - Finger - Injured Reserve
?Matt Hunwick - Lower Body - Probable Saturday

I think I'd scratch PAP and Boyes, but whatever...

Agreed, somewhat surprised PAP is playing. Maybe they'll play him on the PP as it's their last shot to get him down to 2nd round DP territory.

In one of my trademarked curmudgeonly opinions:

Does anyone else find the "Hockey is Canadian and to be Canadian is Hockey and Canadians love Hockey and Hockey makes us Canadian and the soul of Canada is small town hockey" stuff that makes up the bulk of HNIC these days pretty grating? Could you imagine watching a baseball game and the pre-game show not being about the matchup or what's going on around the league but about what Baseball means to America?

Yeah, it does feel awfully forced these days, but maybe I've just gotten more cynical. I think it was easier to accept as harmless Canadiana when the CBC exclusively owned the rights. Now it feels like part of a marketing exercise.

So we are five minutes in against a team that is also a seller meaning they've sucked this season and the commentary team are still fellating them at every opportunity.

Leipsic really impressed him when I saw him live with the Marlies a few weeks ago and it looks like he's showing flashes of why with the Leafs. I don't think he'll ever be a top 6 option for the Leafs, but he might have a future as a 3rd liner. Very intelligent player from what I've seen.

I'm having a hard time keeping up with the game posts tonight.  :-\

Two bad teams, playing bad hockey. We no longer have the hard hitting and general goonery that made crappy teams fun to watch.
