St. Croix played in net for the Philadelphia Flyers and Maple Leafs before he began his coaching career.

He served as an assistant for the Winnipeg Jets in the late 1980′s and was the Dallas Stars? goalie coach when they won their Stanley Cup.

St. Croix most recently served as the goalie coach for the Manitoba Moose. Gary Lawless points out that he worked with Cory Schneider, Eddie Lack and Eddie Pasquale at the AHL level, achieving significant success.

Yay somebody new to blame!

St. Croix's  style isn't rigid enough.  We need a goalie coach who will teach a fundamental blocking style.  After all the point of being a goalie is to stop the puck

Before Allaire no one ever mentioned the goalie coach. Not on this site, not in print. I would wager that without looking it up people here would be hard pressed to name 2 former leafs goalie coaches.

I think a lot of goalie coaches were freelancers, working with different goalies on several teams. Belfour used to work out with Tretiak, even when Tretiak was still a "consultant" for the Blackhawks.

That is a tough question. I think Rick Wamsley was goalie coach for a bit.

Yes he was. Now goalie coach for the Sens. Just taped his daughters wedding this summer.

His "official" title was goalie consultant, whatever that means.

Well, that's a slight exaggeration I think.  The coach before Allaire was Steve McKichan (sp?) -- if memory serves.  I remember people talking about him -- admittedly rarely.

Anyway, Allaire was supposed to be the goalie coach of all goalie coaches, and he didn't transform anybody on the Leafs (for the better).  I expect St. Croix will have at best an impact at the margins, which is probably all anyone can expect.

That's probably true, I certainly can't for instance, but I wonder if the point there isn't that it's gaining more and more prominence for a reason.

Corey Hirsch was here as well before Allaire, was unloaded at some point and went to St. Louis where he seemed to do a decent job with Halak and Elliot, unless that was all Hitch magic.

If St. Croix has been working with Reimer in Winnipeg as Traikos suggests, then it could mean the Leafs are probably even more all in on James than I had imagined.

I'm envious. Get a new (presumably higher paid) gig and not technically be allowed to do anything. Seems something only George Costanza might fall in to.
