Didn't have time for a stats section, but a couple of things I wanted to note. 3 Wings are tied for the team lead in goals: Datsyuk, Nyquist, and Tatar each have 12. And Stephen Weiss has 10 points in 8 games since late November when he returned from his injury/conditioning stint.

I am hoping for a strong game by Optimis Reims this evening. Please Leafs play well for him.
Go Leafs Go

I think this is my first prediction of the year so far, but I fear it is time for a loss tonight. I'm thinking a loss tonight and a win on Saturday to even out the home & home with the wings.

I usually find that expected loses end up in wins with this team (and vice versa, go figure).

Wings are the hottest team in the league right now, going to be in tough no matter what.

I hope Bernier starts.

I could see it happening.  The team has two back-to-backs within 6 days.  It'd make sense to split both, but I'm sure they want Bernier facing his old team on Sunday.  Are we likely to see Reimer get both Detroit games if that's the case?  I doubt it.

Bernier would have 3 full days off before that start after tonight, so he'd get a bit of a breather.

It would be silly to start Bernier tonight, the stats show that it's basically never a good idea to start a goalie on both games of a back-to-back.

Eric Tulsky, a hockey statistician and Harvard grad who?s now crunching numbers for NHL teams, did the definitive work on this question back in 2013. He compared the save percentages of rested goalies playing the second game of a back-to-back to tired goalies playing the second game and found that the rested goalies outperformed them dramatically.

On average, the tired goalies? save percentage was only .901, well below the league average. The rested goalies? was .912, which is closer to what you should expect from a capable backup. That?s a difference of preventing an extra goal every three games, which really adds up over a season.

start Reimheed tonight, give Nelson a break and get him ready for Samedi.

Yes, that will give Bernier time to take a crash course in World Events.

Actually, I accept his explanation that he just got nervous.  Poor guy.

BTW, why does this start at 8?  Weird.  DET's on Eastern.
