Mike Gillis Fired

LeBrun and McKenzie both saying they are hearing rumours that 'change' may be coming in Vancouver as early as today or tomorrow.

I'd put my money on Gillis being fired, as the owners were apparently the ones pushing hard for Tortorella to come to Vancouver in the first place. Hopefully the new GM hates Edler for some reason.

McKenzie is reporting that Trevor Linden will likely be named president. He also suggests that Gillis will be fired and Linden will hire a new GM, who will decide on Tortorella's future with the club.

No surprise. He really screwed the pooch on the goaltending situation and the team is trending in the wrong direction. I'm sure the Leafs are somehow at fault, though. Tampering and such.

Did he ever get shortchanged on the Schneider deal. Luongo you can understand that contract and term but Schneider wow.  A 9th overall pick? The Leafs would have given away the farm and a few #1st rounders for that.

Is anyone really surprised here? This should have happened like 2-3 years ago..

3 years ago they got to game 7 of the Cup final and the Luongo/Schneider issue was very much in its infancy. As much as Gillis has been a great punchline, there was absolutely no reason to pull the trigger on him before last summer. It's really what he's done in the last 12/15 months that cost him his job.

It seems longer since he's been bungling up that Canuck team. The writing's been on the wall nonetheless for a while.

It's time for a change in direction in Vancouver. But it's to little to late. Blown season.
They need more grit, and less politics.
The Coaching with Torts will never work either.
See more changes on the horizon.

The situation with Luongo was already a lightening rod THEN they go out and hire Torts LOL!

We can send Nonis back to replace him.  Recapturing their Glory Years and so forth.

If Vancouver taught anybody anything, it's that you follow up Nonis with a better GM when he gets you to a point of contention.
