NHL Awards Ceremony

I just turned it on and in the last 3 minutes Messier is handing out every award.  They really seem to have streamlined this thing.

Kane won the Lindsay, Panerin won the Calder. I can already tell this is not going to be a night I agree with. I fully expect Karlsson to win the Norris and them to retroactively give the Conn Smythe to Kessel.

Panarin wins the Calder. GhostBear finished 2nd, McDavid finished 3rd. There was also this:

At least nine hockey writers didn't even put McDavid in their top five for rookie of the year.

Hockey writers truly suck at voting for things.

No way. Drew "he's never won one before!" Doughty has that one in the bag.

We're about to find out anyway.

Tarasenko wins the most important award, being put on the latest repackaging of the EA NHL series.

Don't get me wrong, 52 points is nothing to sneeze at, but on what planet is Max Domi the 2nd best rookie this season? And someone literally just threw away their most valuable selection on Larkin? Come on.

Is there any actual debate about which rookie was the best hockey player last season? No? Good.

Doughty takes it in a landslide. Nice to see Francois Beauchemin's terrific season recognized. Good job Adrian Dater I'm assuming.

Kopitar wins the Selke. Man they're just flying through this now huh. Do they need to vacate the theatre by 8:30 or something?

I mean it's not a bad idea to avoid those horrible awkward moments from previous years but yeah, it seems like they just want to get it over with and get out of there as quick as possible.

I really enjoyed Dave Lozo's take on who should win the Norris from a few months ago: http://thecomeback.com/blog/nhl/the-race-for-the-norris-trophy-who-is-the-nhls-best-defenseman.html
