@DarrenDreger All indications are the Dallas Stars are about to make a GM change. Detroit's Jim Nill expected to be named GM of Stars as early as Mon.

Wow, I think a lot of teams have tried to get Nill out of Detroit over the years.

Yeah, this is extremely surprising if true. It seemed as if his allegiance was always going to be with the Wings.

There it is...

@JSportsnet
Just got confirmation, Jim Nill is next GM in Dallas. Told that "they need a total culture change there".

More confirmation:

I'm a little surprised. Haven't followed it really closely.  I didn't think Joe did that bad of a job. He came in during a real mess with ownership.

Wow.  I thought he was absolutely untouchable.  It will be interesting to see how much of Detroit's success rubs off on him.

I don't know anyone who thought that James Neal trade was a good idea.

The lender who basically owned the Stars in bankruptcy did. The team was bought out of bankruptcy court after the trade.

That was a key part of the problem Joe faced. The Stars payroll, that used to be quite competitive, had been slashed - to the bottom 30% of the league or lower - near the cap floor this season. They've been down there throughout his tenure so he hasn't had much of a chance to attract UFAs or hang on to the higher priced talent they had.

The new owner got himself a GM of his own choosing which is fairly common as Brian Burke found out twice for example and I suspect that's a chunk of what's going on.

I thought he was forever loyal to the Red Wings. His name has been brought up by many team's fans, including Leaf fans, when it came to a new GM but it always sounded as if he would never leave Detroit.

Wonder why now and why Dallas. Although I read he is quite to the Stars' president or someone in that type of position, so that may be why.
