So, I bit the bullet today, applied to the RPN course at a couple different colleges. Kind of scary for a reformed grunt and artistic wannabe ( well, there's not a lot of money in music these days... ) but also very, very exciting.

Thanks to a couple of posters here for some sound advice, greatly appreciated!

Guess I'll finally have to give up the dream of playing for the Leafs...  :-X

Good on  you!

I still want to try the whole music thing for a while but there isn't a whole lot you can do really... I'm looking into some post graduate certificates, maybe will try my hand at the CSC or something.

If you have time to kill, CSC is pretty painless to obtain.  If you have basic accounting and economics and rudimentary finance, it'll be a breeze.  90% is memory work off the glossary.

Also, if you have the university/college credits pre-requesites try the CPA in the states.  Much much easier than obtaining a CMA or CGA designation in Canada.  If anybody is interested I have the 2009 Becker course material, although you'll be missing out on IFRS, i don't think it's a big deal.

It'll all be new to me, but I'm pretty good at picking up information and new material. Hardcore finance and whatnot does elude me though.

Thanks Bender, it's new and exciting, should be a good challenge.

I've always had to work at something aside from the arts to pursue my passions ( thank you Henry James ) it's a tough go to make a living that way so I don't think that situation will change a whole lot barring a hit song or some such, you shouldn't ever stop working at the craft no matter.

So I've gone through the hiring process, and have accepted a preliminary offer to start working for Canadian Pacific on July 2nd. Unfortunately, since I accepted their offer on April 26th, I haven't heard anything from them. I'm sure it has to do with the situation they're in now, but it sure would be nice to get final confirmation. I'm pretty eager to get going!

If you don't mind me asking TMLFan, what was the position for?

Part time clerk? Chain Gang? Is it a white collar job? In Vaughan?

Okay cool. Good Luck with that. I've been with the railway for the last two years, with the competition, and it's not been an easy two years I'll tell you. Will you be on what's called a spare board?
