Edmonton is right up there with the Rangers and Florida for the worst goals against in the league.

I haven't seen them play and I understand that they're blaming goaltending, but that defense looks pretty thin.

And who the hell is Arcobello?

Nathan Gerbe of the West.  5'9" 165 Lbs.  An undrafted college player from Yale who signed a two-year deal in 2010-2011.  He was close to PPG in the AHL last year.

Their defense is pretty weak, but from watching their game against Vancouver I'd say that the criticism is fairly placed on Dubnyk. He let in some real stinkers that had nothing to do with poor defensive play. Granted, there were a couple of those too, but the majority were ones that you know he'd want back..

I wouldn't underestimate the oilers.  Doing that kind of thing winds up with losses.  Were they without RNH for the first couple of games?  Giving them literally no centers?  I imagine he's slowly rounding in to form.

My one worry is the Oilers will be charged up with Eakins' return to Toronto...

That being said, they still haven't found a goalie yet - 5-3 Leafs...

RNH missed the first 2 or 3 games and they had moved Hall to centre for those. So yeah, they've definitely had some injury troubles.

Eakins knows the Leafs team pretty damn well - maybe better than Carlyle! - but it's still up to his players to find a way to capitalize on that.  This one feels pretty winnable.

I doubt the Oilers could care less, except for maybe Eakins himself or Mike Brown.

Yeah I didn't think of that, and it's a good point. Eakins knows the team real well. That's a big advantage for Edmonton, even if they are a lousy team.

Does he really, though? There are only 5 guys in the lineup that spent significant time playing for him - Bozak, Gardiner, Kadri, Ranger and Ashton. No one else had more than a cup of coffee with the Marlies under Eakins' tenure as head coach. He may be somewhat familiar with the system, but, really, with all the video scouting and such that out there these days, that's not much of an advantage over any other coach these days. Most of the guys Eakins is really familiar with are either still with the Marlies. I don't think he's really that much more familiar with the Leafs than any other coach in the league.

He was in the system though, and was privy to info that other external coaches wouldn't have access to. As far as the coaching matchup against Carlyle it gives him a bit of an edge.

But, with all the video available these days, I really don't think it does give him any more of an edge than any other coach. Sure, he was part of the system, but, every coach in every league can watch hours and hours of the system in action. I mean, what other info is there that will really give anyone an edge? Every coach in the league can see what they're trying to do, how they're trying to do it, how successful they are at various aspects of it, who's better at what, etc. There just aren't any big secrets out there anymore.
