A couple of pretty nice moves from the Penguins here I think:

Perron-Crosby-Hornqvist
Plotnikov-Malkin-Kessel
Kunitz-Fehr-Bennett
filler-Bonino-Dupuis

Maataa-Letang
Pouliot-Scuderi
Cole-Lovejoy

That's a pretty good looking forward group, particularly if that Russian guy they signed pans out. We all knew their top-6 would be deadly but Bonino and Fehr really give their bottom-6 a big boost.

That blueline though... Scuderi is past his expiration date and trusting Pouliot to be your 3rd best defencemen might be putting too much on his shoulders right now.

Is Bonino really a significant upgrade on Sutter? They seem pretty comparable. I mean, if anything, the balance of the "+'s" there seem to indicate it's a bit of a downgrade.

I mean, I can't say for certain but Clendening is 22 and has AHL seasons of 46 and 59 points so you have to figure he wasn't just a meaningless throw-in.

It sure makes you really wonder about the Despres trade. Admittedly they can't have known they'd lose Martin but still.

Not the only two stats that matter but over the past few seasons Bonino has a pretty large edge in both P60 and CF%. He's also cheaper. I think that you could make the case that Bonino's the better player, the balance in the "+'s" just tell me Vancouver made a poor trade (not terribly uncommon lately from them either).

Yeah, that one stings. It was pretty odd/refreshing I guess to hear Rutherford publicly admit that it was a bad trade, especially so soon after it was completed.

Maybe. Anaheim used him in a pretty heavy offensive role though, including a ton of PP time which you have to figure will be curtailed slightly in Pittsburgh. Admittedly you want good production up and down the line-up but Sutter got leaned on hard as a penalty killer the last two years(finishing 17th and 8th in the league in total SHTOI among forwards).
