play by play guys.

I tend to watch as many games as I can, but the more I see on sports net the more I hate watching. These guys do nothing but cut up the Leafs, talk up the other teams top players.
in the Tamps game I had to turn down the volume just to keep watching the game. I'll bet he spoke of the shots against the leafs 200 times, it was insane. and this is just one example of the play by play. Stamkos was spoke of more times then all the players on both teams, during the game, another thing is all the time its the bad Toronto does not the good that is spoke of, they need to get rid of these guys. Even when the Buds win they find fault during the game.

Welcome to the reality of the Toronto market when it comes to our 'beloved' Maple Leafs. I've said it many times. There are more media figures and fans that regularly bash this team than there are those that truly like them.

Just because this team has been mismanaged for so many years, it doesn't necessarily mean that is what is happening now, even though these same people will tell you that it is.

In fact, most fans and media will always tell you they are being mismanaged even though the current administration has taken a more methodical approach to management and are doing what everyone was screaming for them to do...mainly, nurturing a competitive environment from the farm on up and holding on to draft picks instead of trading them all away for quick fixes.

Add this to the fact that they are trying new things like the analytics dept., and its clear to me that this management team is not the same as ones from years gone by.

Its unfortunate that many still think the Leafs are grossly mismanaged and are always expecting the worse to happen instead of giving the new management and these new ideas a chance to take hold.

Also, you ever notice that nobody ever talks about the nice things global warming will bring about? Think of those gorgeous Newfoundland beaches in the year 2054. Surf's up!

Yeah. Thats the same.

And what's the deal with all the negativity in the newspapers in general? What about the good news? I got a coupon for 50 cents off my next order of a Pizza pie but the paper is all about the "economy" being "bad". Where's my headline, Mr. Hearst!

In defense of the fans, there's a solid track record to refer to, and multiple seasons of the same core/top line players showing an inability to compete night in/out, even against mediocre teams. Every year the leafs draft out of the top 5 is a wasted opportunity, and I think true frustration from fans is the lack of management acknowledgment that this needs to be blown up properly and done right.

Those are all fair points. And Nonis should take the heat for a lot of those decisions. But, none of this was on Shanahan's watch. This is a new administration with Shanahan as president. He's already shown he's willing to bring new ideas and a different approach to the management of this team, and it will take some time to implement these changes.

I think it's only fair to see what happens this season and next before we declare that he's just another incompetent manager in a long line of incompetent mangers.

Someone will eventually get this right, and I think we've all been a little brainwashed into believing that no one ever will again.

If the team was better, the commentators would have nicer things to say.

I only watched the game-in-six, but Romanuk was gushing over Kessel's play, pointing out "the genius of Kessel" and about how he sees the game. He was also very complementary about Reimer's play.

To your first point, I've been a fan over 40 years now so I hope people will forgive me a little negativity.

I fully expect the Leafs to continue their downward slide, and maybe even pick up a little speed on the way down the hill.  What happens during/after the slide is what really interests me, and I hope Shanahan is able to make his mark and do something substantial.  Personally, if the slide continues (again) I would like to see the core of the team blown up.

When teams play poorly, they deserve to be criticized, regardless of the score or the result. And, the Leafs have been playing poorly.
