Question about stock app in Android

My phone (Galaxy S7) recently updated to Nougat and I don't like the changes to the stock camera interface.  Is it possible to revert a single app to a previous version?  I don't want any of the camera apps from the Play Store because of the advertisements that usually accompany them.

I'm not sure about getting the stock marshmallow/edge camera, perhaps you could find it by googling.

The following link should allow you to download and install the stock camera app from google pixel.

The second link seems like it would do the trick, but it also seems a bit intimidating in terms of the steps involved.  I'd be more comfortable watching someone else do it!  Let me read through it again and see if I can better make heads or tails.

I wonder why people (or companies) don't make older versions of apps available via the Play Store?  That would seem the simplest way to get what you want.  It would also provide the companies with valuable feedback about which features users actually want.

Installing the previous version of software involves gaining root access to the phone and installing a custom recovery on your phone.

The risks involved in doing this is you could end up turning your phone into a paper weight.

If you still have warranty on your phone, I do not recommend rooting since it will void your warranty.

Also, some apps will not run on a rooted phone.  Certain things like Android Pay and Samsung pay if you use them, may no longer work.

Rooting a phone is essentially bypassing it's internal security, making it less secure.

I do not recommend a first time rooter to root their daily driver phone.  If you are interested in such things, I would recommend picking up a cheap used Android phone off Kijiji or something to get familiar with the process.
