Rob Ford wins his appeal

Haven't really been following, so this means he stays as Mayor of Toronto?

Yup.

Thanks, not sure if that is good or bad, I have never really been into politics being from a small town it just never interested me. Now that I live in Winnipeg I have been paying more attention to everything in Winnipeg and a bit for the Province, hopefully Ford isn't as bad as Sam Katz.

I'm confused. How is voting on a measure that decides whether or not you, specifically, are to be forced to face your punishment not a conflict of interest?

According to the interpretation of the appeal judges, the vote to make him pay it back should have never happened in the first place as council didn't have the authority to make him pay it back in the first place, since his charity is technically considered a "third party"...

I've made my feelings on Ford known here before, so I'm going to stay out of this to make sure things don't get heated again, but in a way, this is a very fitting end to the whole saga - the whole reason Ford lost his seat in the first place was on a technicality.  Now, he's won his appeal on a technicality...

His opponents really need to now focus on who is going to run against him in 2 years.  Many think a dented garbage can could beat him, but reality is he could win again if a solid candidate isn't brought forward.

Ford will be busy sleeping in and dreaming up football plays... Mammoliti is busy chasing down some conspiracy that his phone was hacked... plenty of opportunity to get set up for 2 years from now.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised. This whole thing has been pretty absurd. It just concerns me that no one seemed to have brought up this particular issue the first time around.

Honestly, I think Te'o's girlfriend stands a better shot in the next election but what do I know?

There still seems to be very loyal group of voters who like this guy.  They only see "tax cuts and stop the gravy" and ignore the rest of the BS that Ford spits out every day. Not to mention the opposite of tax cuts have happened.

I think the problem is if no decent candidate steps up, it will be Ford vs. some uninspiring alternatives that split up the vote and he will get in again.

Would be nice if Toronto could get a few high powered, successful exec types to step up, like Bloomberg did in NYC. (not that I know if he's good but proven success running large companies is usually a positive)

blogTO: Clayton Ruby, the lawyer who opposed Ford, says he'll ask the Supreme Court of Canada for leave to appeal this result. Not over? #topoli

Round 3. Start.

I don't live in Toronto so I don't benefit from all the glorious "results" voters there are getting so again, what do I know? I'm only privy to his cavernous mouth.

It was brought up. You might have missed it. People were more concerned about arguing about whether Ford was a good mayor or not.

Jose Canseco weighs in:

"I do not recognize Rod Ford @TOMayorFord Toronto mayor as legitimate #yeswecanseco"

"Pisses me off he does not deserve the chain. #yeswecanseco"

"Can anybody get me a lunch with the Supreme Court of Canada leader? #yeswecanseco"

"So mad can barely see straight #yeswecanseco"

"Calming down. Looking into setting up Toronto govt in exile in Vegas for the next two years. Come join me. #yeswecanseco"

What brilliant analysis Jose!

Technically not from Toronto. Kind of happy that the 416ers have to deal with that sideshow so as not to draw attention to the absolute joke that is city council in the Vaughan.

After reading/listening/watching this whole thing unfold, it just cements the notion that politics (at least municipal politics) is simply a bunch of bad attitudes and high school drama/scheming for personal development. I used to think it was just an issue with my municipal government. I'm happy/disappointed to see that this is obviously not the case.

Well Jose is an idiot, but I was talking more about the Rob Ford show than Jose. I couldn't even kind of imagine Canseco being in politics.
