I agree with Cherry *shudders*

Pucks that are playable or pass closely by a player while going down the ice shouldn't be icing.

I really thought that was written into the rule, the refs just never let things go.

Also, I do enjoy how the NHL continues to give the proverbial middle finger to Canada with respect to the NHL.  No Saturday night game and instead we get a Saturday afternoon game at 1:00PM and a Sunday afternoon game at 3:00PM.

Yup, pretty annoying. NBC has some horses running around later tonight so there was no chance for a Saturday night game.

It's pretty funny when Tampa's 2nd powerplay unit starts a powerplay. They must be praying that the Rangers can ice the puck after 30 seconds or so to get the big unit out.

Gah the Rangers style of play in painful.  Every single game this playoffs have been a 1-goal game and they have scored more than 2 goals in 3 games out of 13 games.

Yup.  You'd like to think that since Rogers' deal dwarfs that of NBC's, they'd be able to throw some muscle around.  Guess not.

Fully acknowledging that I have absolutely no interest in horse racing but the race is also over and done with by about 6:15.  You easily could have a game start at 7:30 or even 8:00PM.

NYRangers 2  Tampa Bay 1  New York leads series 1 game to 0.

Control, pace, push, save, bounce...sounds more like a technique in exercise rather than a recipe for a hockey game.  But that's exactly what it was, the Rangers carefully crafted plan that has stood them success so far in these playoffs.

Having Lundqvist as your world class netminder sure helps giving a team the confidence it needs there, thus enabling them to concentrate on the little things that make up the bigger picture, and that's exactly where the New York Rangers excel.
The Broadways Blueshirts kept it simple, as they went skate for skate, puck for puck, with the speedy Lightning, who, by their own admission, couldn't quite figure out the Blueshirts just yet.

"They make the simple plays," said Lightning captain Steven Stamkos. "That's a team that's well-coached and well-versed for the playoffs. They know what to do in these situations.

"We're a group that is definitely on that path, and I think the first period was a little wakeup call for us."

The game was tied at 1 apiece when with just a little over two minutes remaining in regulation time, when Dominic Moore scored when his teammate's pass bounced off his shin past Tampa goaltender Ben Bishop.

Talk about being lucky.  The Lightning had their chances but couldn't break the tie.  New York did.  Big difference.

Game 2 goes Monday in New York at 8PM.

I'm sure I say something like this every week but Don Cherry is basically just a collection of familiar loud, dumb noises at this point.

Bolts win game 3 in OT, 6-5. Just watched the highlights and a lot of odd man rushes for Tampa Bay in that game. The OT winner, well, I was surprised that it went in even if it was from the hash marks. Tampa up 2-1 and have scored 12 goals in the last two games. Lundqvist gave up 12 goals in the entire Washington series. What a change.

One of the delicious moments from last nights game came in the first when the broadcasters were all orgasming over Lundqvist saying he's really dialed in etc and Healy chimes in in his Self-satisfied Voice to say I don't think he'll be giving up six TONIGHT.

NYRangers  5  Tampa Bay  1    Series tied at 2 games apiece.

The Rangers' forwards Martin St. Louis and Rick Nash finally lit up the scoreboard.  The two were instrumental in supplying  New York with much-needed scoring power, as the Rangers handled Tampa Bay handily in their Game 4 victory.

A disappointing, some say stunned, crowd at the Amalie Arena watched the Lightning fall back down to earth, figuratively speaking, as nothing seemed to click for the Bolts, no matter how many shots they peppered Rangers netminder Henrik Lundqvist with.  And pepper him they did -- Tampa Bay outshot New York 39-24.

Lundqvist said...?I feel like the entire team stepped up. It feels so good when you?re feeling like you?re doing it together and not just one or two guys.?

The Blueshirts were ready for this one, as they took a 3-1 lead on goals by Nash, Kreider & Keith Yandle.  Then, as insurance markers, St.Louis and Nash again, popped in two more in the third period to seal the win.

"Things that were going in the other night weren't going in for us. We'll have to respond," Stamkos, the Lightning captain, said.

We'll see to that.

The Rangers should be way up this game ... but no.

Stralman gets that TB goal rolling with a nice breakout pass.

Dear God, Please grant your faithful servants, the Toronoto Maple Leafs, a power play just like that one.

So at what point do we stop calling Rick Nash a guy in a playoff goalscoring slump and start discussing the fact that he's just not a great playoff performer.

I mean Joe Thornton gets derided as a guy who can't lead a team in the playoffs (mind you I'm not one of them) and he has scored at a better goal scoring pace than Rick Nash over his career.

I guess Tampa found him.  14 points in his last 10 games.  14 points overall since the start of the 2nd round.

Career playoff comparables:

Rick Nash        58 games  0.155 GPG  0.328 APG  0.483 PPG
Cody Franson  28 games  0.143 GPG  0.393 APG  0.536 PPG

I don't think he's not a playoff performer.  He averages about 3.8 shots per game in the regular season for his career, and 3.4 per game in the playoffs.  If he was really struggling I would imagine that number would be much lower, unless we're to assume he begins taking a lot of long, harmless shots.  I don't know how you explain his 12.5% career SH% in the regular season and his 4.5% career SH% in the playoffs.

If he's still getting the chances I would think he's still playing well, but it's hard to say why the shots just don't go in.
