Sens fear Leaf fans?

Leaf 50

Just read an article reporting that Sens management has warned fans not  to sell their unused tickets to Leaf fans.So i guess that means the Sens will finally have more of their fans than Leafs do , in their own barn -quite laughable -but I guess the truth has really hurt to admit.Should lead to some creativity for Leaf fans in Ottawa .

They've pulled stuff like this before. Didn't work then, hopefully it won't work now. Seems like the move of an 8 year old.

I remember there being a time where the Sens were trying to ban Leafs sweaters in their building, which eventually turned into a must-donate-to-food-bank-to-wear scheme soon after...

I always knew the Sens had an inferiority complex, but this is taking it to an all time low.

I don't mind what they're trying to do, but they way they have done it is quite pathetic.  Could they not have done it in a more subtle way?

"Hey there sens fans!

We've got a big game coming up against Toronto.  For a limited time, we're offering additional discount tickets to all our loyal season ticket holders.  So round up all your sens friends and come cheer on the team!"

Something like that would have been much less lame to me.

My concern with this recent scheme is what if some Leafs fan buys tickets online, shows up at the stadium, maybe with his family in tow, and is denied access ultimately because he is a Leafs fan. Is that what we want? Not to be able to see our teams at other stadiums? No Canadiens jerseys in Toronto, no Ranger jerseys on Long Island, etc...

Until that becomes an actual policy, which it never would, then said Leafs fan would be well within his rights to sue the Senators.

I'm all for pig-piling on the Sens but they're not talking about banning people, they just want Alfredsson to stop getting booed at Leafs-Sens home games.

Fat chance, Krusty.

Aren't they saying that tickets bought by a season ticket holder for a discount are subject to cancellation should they sell those tickets to a Leafs fan?

?We are asking you to ensure that the tickets are used by Senators fans and not re-sold to the general public,? the email said. ?Any seats being re-sold will be subject to cancellation and loss of privileges with respect to future additional ticket pre-sales.?

So a ticket is flagged as being bought by a season ticket holder at the discount, a guy in a Leaf jersey shows up with that ticket, do they cancel the ticket?

Granted it sounds hard to enforce, but if they're not going to deny access to non-Sen fans who have these tickets, then what is this? Just an empty threat? I guess that's the Sens for you.

And I assume you're right that the Leaf fan would likely win any case they brought against the Sens.

Well, not specifically. They're saying these discounted tickets are subject to cancellation if they're re-sold at all.

Anyways, I think what this boils down to is that the Senators know that they can sell tickets to a Leafs/Sens game but that they're willing to take a hit on the face value of seats in order to get more Sens fans out.

Yeah, they're saying re-sold in general, but they don't mean re-sold to Sens fans. Season ticket holders already have tickets. These discounted tickets are going to be re-sold, or maybe given away, but probably re-sold. As long as it's to a Sens fan, they won't enforce the cancellation. It will be interesting to see if they do cancel any of these tickets.

The whole thing is ridiculous, how will they even know if they're resold?

I think most teams are savvy enough these days to have an eye on the secondary ticket market and sites like stubhub to see what seats go up for sale.

Maybe. If a Sens fan buys a discounted ticket off stubhub, I wonder if that ticket will be cancelled.

They wouldn't.  Let's say I'm a sens fans and I buy a ticket through this offer.  Then I decided, for whatver reason, to wear a Leafs jersey to the game.  Sherlock the Ticket-taker spots a Leaf jersey trying to enter That Building in the Middle of a Parking lot and jumps to the conclusion that the ticket was re-sold.  Ticket cancelled.  In essence, a legitimate ticket buyer would be prevented from using a ticket because of his choice of clothing.  I don't know about in Canada, but down here that would be rather illegal.

Yeah. If they try to enforce this without clear evidence that something illegal or in violation of the ticket holder agreement took place, they're likely opening themselves up to a bunch of lawsuits.
