Series Thread: Edmonton vs Anaheim

Game I Recap:
Oilers 5    Ducks  3    Edmonton leads series l game to 0.
Leon Draisaitl lends the way for Edmonton as the Oilers outpaced Anaheim where it counted.  Can Talbot, Oilers' netmmder provided the necessities in goal to stymie an Anaheim comeback.

Game 2 recap:
Oilers 2  Ducks 1    Edmonton leads series 2 games to 0.

The Anaheim Ducks vowed to alter their game plan slightly in being more aggressive offensively and better defensively.  Well, they pulled through on both of those counts but it still amounted in the loss column.

As they had done in Game 1,  Edmonton took the lead in the first period but this time they were outshot 12-3.  Though the O ilers would eventually emerge victorious, it was largely up to goaltender Cam Talbot (and some goalposts) to keep his team & the lead intact.  Talbot was superb in the 39 shots he faced.  His opponent, the Ducks' John Gibson had it easy but certainly not in the manner in which Talbot faced with the Ducks constantly churning up the offensive pressure.

Oilers were simply outplayed, outhit, and outshot, in a game they had no business winning, and still came away with the win.

Ducks  6  Oilers  3    Edmonton leads series 2 games to 1.

When the Anaheim Ducks vowed to change a part of their game plan following their loss in Game 2 at home in Anaheim, they knew it would only be a matter of time before the puck started finding it's way in.

It certainly came to fruition as this time the Ducks rebounded. The black disc found it's way into the net whether it was having bounced off someone's shoulder or over the arm of goaltender Cam Talbot, who had been nothing short of outstanding in the Game 2 win for Edmonton.
The Ducks shot everywhere at every corner with every opportunity presented, and to their luck, the goals kept pouring in.  There wasn't much Edmonton could do to stop a determined Anaheim team complete with a much better defence in front of goaltender John Gibson.

Such are the perils of  the playoffs for a young squad like Edmonton.  Perhaps you can't win 'em all but at least you can try for more to come.  We'll see.

The Oilers game is insane.  Oilers holding a 3-0 lead late in the 3rd.  The Ducks go ahead and score 3 empty net goals, the last with 15 seconds left.  Going to OT.

I can't believe that there was no goaltender interference there. I really think they need to take the video reviews out of the hands of the refs on the ice. Ive always felt that their own ego gets in the way of making the proper call, especially if it overturns their previous call.

The 3rd Anaheim goal was clearly a bad call, but there was an awful missed call against Edmonton leading up to the 3rd Oiler goal. So, as far as I'm concerned, it all evened out.

I didn't watch the game. What was the missed call on the Edmonton goal?

Big scrum in the crease. Looks like Kesler was being pushed/forced into the crease area by Nurse so maybe that's why they didn't call it goalie interference, but you can see Kesler's hand basically grabbing onto Talbot's pad and that's what the Oilers are really complaining about.

Yes, that one I've seen. That's what I was going on about earlier. I was just wondering what the issue was on Edmonton's 3rd goal that Busta referred to.

As a goalie, i have a hard time equating a high stick that had no real bearing on the goal and a player grabbing onto the tenders pad that clearly allowed the puck to go in...maybe that's just me. Also, high sticks aren't reviewable...grabbing a goalies pad is definitely reviewable.

Well, it's not about being reviewable or being exactly equatable. The penalty should have been called, which means the play that resulted in the goal shouldn't have happened. Edmonton ended up getting a goal they shouldn't have, just like Anaheim. And, it did have some bearing on the goal - Perry wasn't able to get back to his defensive position in a timely fashion, because he had to pick himself off the ice because he got hit in the face with a stick hard enough to knock him over.

Like I said, I'm a goalie and I'm partial to the issues that effect a goalies ability to stop a puck.

My initial question was how the league could overlook the play. Especially because they had a chance to review if from every different angle. I'd hope that the league wouldn't look back at a play earlier in the game and think..."well there was that high stick earlier"
