Authorities stop alleged terror plot in Ontario & Quebec: CBC

The CBC is reporting that authorities have stopped a plot to carry out a major terrorist attack. The broadcaster said suspects have been arrested in Ontario and Quebec.

I really hope it has something to do with the large ammonium nitrate purchase from 2010 that wasn't traced or ID'd properly.

The supposed target was apparently the railway lines between the US and Canada - specifically, between Toronto and NYC.

Two weeks ago, my best friend and his family were on one of those.  :-\

I hope I'm wrong on this, but I feel like its only a matter of time before something happens in Toronto.

All this and I'm climbing the CN Tower on Saturday.

I'm not worried. Securing the tower would be a lot easier than a route several miles long.

I know that feeling and I have it too. But then I look and see that cities like Chicago, Philadelphia and LA have yet to have one, so I don't know why they would be targeting Toronto over those higher profile US cities.

Maybe I'm naive but I'm not convinced T.O. was a target at all. Maybe the plan was to board the package here and have the "event" happen in NY? Forgive me if I'm wrong, I'm at work and not up to speed...

the Sun article mentions 'the trestle' and on the Canadian side of the Niagara river. My husband immediately said "their target is the bridge"?...

In one of the reports, I saw that they intended derailment- damage the track before the edge of the river and much if not the entire train would slide into the river.

Would have killed or maimed a lot of folks if they'd been successful.

Good for them to catch these guys before it happened. I expected a worse record in North America after 9/11. But I still fear it's just a matter of time before more get through.

well, it was supposed to be 'in spectacular fashion' (paraphrasing)?. My bet would be your second photo: higher up, more 'visual' than the first one. But, I'm neither a plotting terrorist nor an investigating cop, so I dunno??.

Reports seem to have the event occurring closer to TO, but, I imagine the association with NYC was a key factor.
