My Three Dogs:

Left to Right: Friend (a Shepherd/Lab cross  rescue Feb 1983-May 1993); Rafiki (a Shepherd/Lab cross rescue-- the Swahili word for Friend, Apr 1993-May 2007) and Miko (Shepherd/Rottweiler cross rescue Feb 2007 to present, Miko is short for Amico, the Italian word for Friend)

This photo is of a wood carving my father did, working from photographs of the dogs. It's the lid of a hopechest; one of four in my house all of which represent something special to the owner. This particular chest belongs to my husband.

Story about Friend: He was a huge hockey fan. He was the only child spoiled dog of newlyweds. Saturday night was Cookie Night in Canada in our house. Friend got a Milkbone treat every time the Leafs scored a goal. Wendel Clark and Steve Thomas made Friend fat.

He was an exceptionally perceptive dog. We both worked full time when we got him, and I unwound at night by watching MASH reruns. Friend knew that MASH was quality Mom-hugs-me-because-the-tv-makes-her-cry time. It got to the point where when he heard the theme music for MASH, he'd park at the foot of the couch he knew I'd be sitting on. After a year or so of this (I always attributed it to the music) I realised something else. I was doing laundry one day, and there's Friend, having assumed the MASH position at the couch. I'm thinking WTF for the longest time and happened to look up at the TV. Phil Donahue was on....and guest starring on the show that day was Alan Alda. Hmmmm. I say. A month or so later, he's there at the couch again and I wonder why. Days of our Lives is on tv. Hmmm. And I pay half attention and realise 'holy cow, this actor looks and sounds like Alan Alda, only way younger.' So I sit down (hug the dog) and wait for credits to come on. And damn if it isn't *Antony* Alda on the show. Yep, Alan's sound alike, look alike younger half brother.

We had Lassie from when I was about two years old until I was sixteen, she had to be put to sleep on New Years Eve 1998, she was the absolute spitting image of The Littlest Hobo. She was the most amazing affectionate dog and could say some words in English.  I don't have any pictures of her so I'll leave you with an image of her Doppelganger.

On the following February the 15th we decided 10 weeks without a dog was too much and went and rescued Molly, she was an 18 month old German Sheppard and we became fast friends.

I moved from Scotland to California in June 2010 and in October of 2010 old age and according to my parents, her missing me caught up with her and they had to have her put to sleep.

Not long after this my new wife and I decided we wanted a dog(my wife's first) so we went to the local pound and rescued an only weeks old puppy who was a lab akita mix, we named him Puck and here is a recent picture...

And finally about six months ago my wife was out walking and found a little dachshund/beagle mix shivering under a bush and brought him home, after an exhaustive search for his owners including contacting micro-chipping centers, animal control, veterinarians and putting up flyers with his picture on it, all came up empty, we decided we couldn't send him to the pound and he became out second dog.

His name is Deke and he is about five years old.

Despite the monumental size difference( 65lbs vs 16lbs), the little one is the boss.

This is Felix. He is an 18-year-old silver tabby who is named after my favourite leaf player back in 1993.

If anyone is on instagram you can check them out @dappleganger

This is Layla.  This is how she sleeps.

She is also a homophobe, and hisses any time a gay dude is at my house.  Lesbians she is okay with.

My brother and I brought Sky home after several years of losing our first pet.  He had some health problems, and was a somewhat grumpy fella, but a very good boy nonetheless.

Sesame was brought home just before my wife and I got married.  Eventually the two dogs stayed together, whether at my parents or at my place.
These two were definately creatures of comfort as you can see.

This might be better off on a Hall of Shame thread.
Sesame at about 9 months old or so (maybe less)

So many beautiful animals here.

Here's one of "Echo" when she was around 9 or 10. I miss her terribly;

Here's one of our current dog "Malibu" on the boat (she's 2 now.) She's a great swimmer but safety first!

Did you just copy those from Gmail Sarge?

If so you need to host the pictures at a third party site and then post them here.

http://imgur.com/

Is quick and easy, save the pictures to your computer, upload them there and then you can post them here.

No, the gmail ones weren't visible, the imgur links you posted work.

Beautiful animals, loving Malibu's jacket, she seems pretty chilled out in that picture.

Thanks.. Though, she was so chilled that while we were going out of the channel, she jumped right off the bow and wound up completely under the boat!  Obviously, I killed the engine right away, disengaging the prop and sure enough, there she was, right off the stern seconds later, confused but still a happy pooch. Man, we were all scared as hell. Those handles make it really easy to pluck her out of the water. It's funny, we just bought that boat coat that morning!

BTW, that imgur thing really was dead easy - even for me! Thanks.

Edit: "Puck" - Very cute.

Yikes, that quick thinking on your feet probably saved her and the coat payed for itself immediately.

Puck loves to do laps in our pool, I think it's the lab in him.

Glad imgur worked.

OMG, I just gotta say all these doggy pictures are gorgeous! Echo, Malibu, Sesame, Sky and Winston all beautiful doggies! And the baby picture of Puck, just too precious!

thanks for sharing, I hope we see more soon!

LOL! What did he destroy? (I'll admit that I thought, at first sight, that he was assuming the pooping position in the back until I realised, uh oh, he's wrecked something :D )
