There's an ASG this year

Awesome. I hope that one of the randomly assembled grouping of some of the league's best players(and the players selected to ensure every team has a representative) beats the other one in a game where neither squad cares enough to play defense.

In tropical Columbus.

Zemgus Girgensons was voted in as the top vote getter.  Who you might ask?  Well, the 20 year old forward from the Buffalo Sabres with 11G 9A in 39GP.  The rest of the 6 voted were all from Chicago - Kane, Toews, Seabrook, Keith and Crawford.

I think the All-star game needs to go away.

I doubt it ever goes away, but they gotta do something to change things up every few years. I'd be all for going back to the NA vs. the World format for a little while. Although you might need to make it Canada vs. the World to keep it competitive these days.

I've always been a fan of the all-star game and I look forward to watching it each year. I think they just need to keep it simple and dispense with some of the gimmicks and self-aggrandizing, such as fan voting, team-picking, etc.

Yeah, so...

Well, if there's one thing I've often said about your classic hockey sweaters it's that they really lacked in night visibility.

I always liked the idea having the reigning stanley cup champion vs. the all stars. Although I realzie you wouldn't have as many stars to show off with only one all star team.

Or, you know, there's always the option of having the NHL all stars play a team of ice skating, stick wielding cyborgs. In which case, these new jerseys would be perfect.

Before judging, I'm going to assume that the neon green is part of the new player tracking system?

No, you can go ahead and judge now.

To better follow the play, there will now be a neon streak behind each player, emanating from the players.  It will change colours based on how fast they are skating.  Also if their compete level reaches the maximum level they will start to vibrate.

I've always liked the baseball version, winner gets home field advantage, makes the thing seem less of a farce.

I think it makes it even more of a farce.  When you force an all-star game to have representation from all of your teams, you have now created a situation where a player from the 30th ranked team can give/take away home field advantage in the biggest games of the season.  It adds intensity and value to the all-star game but it does so at the expense of teams who are actually good.

I think that's something that only really works for baseball, because there was something of a legit rivalry between the two leagues for a long while. Past MLB All Star Games were super competitive, and, even still, with baseball, there's only so much you can dumb down the game before it's no longer baseball. With the NHL, it's always kind of been a "for the fans" thing. It never really had that competitive edge to it, and I don't think adding unnecessary meaning the result with change that.

I used to enjoy the skills competition but it got too goofy (ovechkin, kane etc.) so I don't care even about that now. But won't watch the ASG...Such a bore
