Trouba deal done w/Jets. 2-year deal. $2.5 million year one, $3.5 million year two.

Even for a bridge deal that's a crazy-low price.

That's a come and get me contract if ever I saw one.

Also, before anyone says anything about any Canadian teams, his dad is about to be a felon and won't be allowed into Canada.

He is going to play in America.

Maybe they'll trade him to a U.S. team now that he has a deal.  He still wants to leave.

Not that I don't believe you but where did you read that about his father? I only ask because I figure I'd have heard that before.

Can I post a link about the charges against John Trouba?  Of the Gail and Rice profit sharing plan?

I think it's still an ongoing proceeding and the hockey media have a gentleman's agreement to not cover it. A few media types have mentioned it on informal podcasts.

It's basically connected to what the poster above is talking about.

I can understand Trouba's desire given the circumstances but Trouba, as we've just seen, is in a position to dictate anything.

Please, the kid signed a contract worth half what he is worth annually for a third of the term he could have easily gotten.

This contract is designed to create suitors.

Well, that or it's a "I want to be a UFA as soon as humanly possible" contract.

I guess the argument is that if Trouba wasn't in a position to force the trade the best he could do is sign a short deal(letting them know he won't be around long term) which puts pressure on Jets to maximize whatever trade they eventually have to make for him.

I think it makes him a little more interesting to those teams that may be wanting to see a little more before they commit long term big dollars to the guy.  Those that were already interested would still be.

I mean, the Leafs would likely be more interested now I would think (low cap hit), barring of course his preference for an American team if that's indeed the case.

Trouba says he has rescinded trade request. "I signed that paper to be here for two years."

I wonder if this is true or just PR fluff. The only way this deal made sense to me was if it came with a handshake agreement that he'd be dealt before year 2.

Should note too that Trouba's still a RFA at the end of this contract.

Why? He had absolutely no leverage. If he wanted to play this year, which gets him to UFA quicker, ultimately he had to take whatever was being offered.

I'm guessing PR fluff. While Nik's right in that he doesn't really have any leverage, I'm sure the trade request has really only been rescinded for public perception. I'm sure he'd still like to be moved - it's just that it's now an "understanding" between him and the team, rather than a direct request.

For what it's worth I wasn't making a statement about whether or not Trouba still wants to be traded, just that I understand why he signed the deal he did even if there isn't an agreement to trade him already. If he wasn't willing to sign a long term deal then he just had to sign whatever was in front of him.
