Leafs Front Office 2026-27

The crazy thing is put Gillis in there and I think it could really work out:

POHO: Gillis
VP: Sundin
GM: Chayka

Gillis can provide the exact experience both other guys lack. And I think he'd mesh well with both considering his history with Sundin and the similarities between him and Chayka. In 2-3 years when Gillis hits 70 he can step aside and let the two fully take over the reigns (assuming positive results).

Without Gillis though they should just hand the keys to Scott White.

Please hire Gillis as a consultant, sr advisor whatever.

I did see that Sundin has been doing some work with advisory boards for Swedish hockey development and the Salming foundation, so he’s not fresh off the street.

Chayka with real spending money to workshop his dreams of maximizing hockey performance would at least be a curiosity, and hopefully land on some effective processes. Get ready for more extremely tall draft picks. Is he even cleared to be hired?

That's my thing. Why are we putting Chayka over White who's in a winning org?

A part of me figures White doesn't want to leave Dallas for a role where he's just going to be second fiddle again... assuming reports of Sundin getting POHO or something similar are true.

I don't understand how you hire them at the same time. If Sundin is in fact POHO then how is the GM decision already made of he himself hasn't accepted any position yet?

This franchise really infuriates me. Say what you want about the Dubas and Shanahan era (even Lamoriello), but I never felt like they were bumbling through managing the franchise (well, except for Shanahan rushing to hire Treliving). Now it feels like I'm watching some kind of sitcom. Or maybe an episode of succession everytime the kids try to make a move.

I did think there were issues. I didn't like Lou handling the trades like he did - he was old and fairly incompetent and I didn't like the Hunter/Dubas power struggle, then the Shanny/Dubas power struggle. Apart from drafting Willy/Mitch/Austin it's been a bit of a mess all things considered. It's just papered over by good regular seasons.

I have figured all along that any POHO candidates have been in discussion with GM candidates in conjunction. I really don't think it's a matter of getting a POHO solely in office first, then moving on to the next step of filling the GM position.

This franchise lost its way once Pelley came on board. Eliminating the president position across all three sporting franchises set the tone of what was to come.

I just mean the leaky rumours. There were issues but I didn't feel like they were bumbling.

And don't get me wrong, I don't like most of anything lamoriello did while he was here, but the ship was tight if you know what I mean. There weren't loose lips during his tenure. That's what I meant.

I'm not referring to trades, drafts or signings. Just the air of professionalism that surrounded the franchise. I don't feel that anymore. It feels like a clown show right now.

It’s because all their dealings were handled by secure fax lines and it was too much work for the leakers to retype all that into their phones.
