2026-27 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion | Official: Sundin & Chayka to lead front office

Yeah, there were definitely non-answers; but judging by experience with Pelley pressers, if you just ask an open-ended question with genuine curiosity he might volunteer too much about Radim Mrtka and Michael Hageeeeee or whoever else they interviewed. I think Simmons asked the question we all...

2026-27 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion | Official: Sundin & Chayka to lead front office

This 32 Thoughts interview with Chayka has good talky points. Reading the transcript really highlights, like, you know, just how Millenial Chayka is. You know.

2026-27 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion | Official: Sundin & Chayka to lead front office

Exactly this. The core of the question was valid, but he would've received a more reasonable (non)answer if it was posed professionally. These journalists could do their own digging about the real story behind the red flags.

2026-27 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion | Official: Sundin & Chayka to lead front office

There definitely should be a process. The process should also tell him it is wiser to let go of said millions of dollars if the goal is to maximize their current core players. Just the gate revenue of getting back into the playoffs with a regular coach will pay that off and then some.

We all know what Chayka needs to do to win the hearts and minds of hockey media and executives: * create and beat a sexual assault allegation, or * have a dead parent(s)

He was the one that claimed Chayka was a Glasberg client, which was refuted later. Simmons evidently will write columns from single-sourced anecdotes. He's not always wrong (Hakanpaa knee), but he's also been wrong plenty (hot dogs). This is the story he wrote and shared Chayka left office in...

2026-27 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion | Official: Sundin & Chayka to lead front office

Whoever was hired was always going to have to report to Pelley, the President of the MLSE board representing ownership. If Chayka is someone Pelley respects and isn't constantly second-guessing, there shouldn't be much meddling from that direction. This is what I'm hoping for as well. Pick a...

My question is, are those Chayka qualities not available in other AGMs that aren't Chayka specifically? Because the baggage (fair or unfair) and the reputation around the league of the publicized situations sort of put him and the Leafs on the backfoot for every interaction going forward. Like...

2026-27 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion | Official: Sundin & Chayka to lead front office

Sundin is here as the enforcer; no actionable title power, but tremendous soft power in his role, reach, and reputation. Whatever decisions are made in hockey ops, be it play on ice or off ice organizational practice, it will have Sundin’s doleful stare behind it. The superstars basically...
