Nuck fan wants to trade Luongo for Phaneuf, 1 for 1.

Where did you see that?

It is an interesting thought. Though I do think some people in Toronto significantly underrate Phaneuf, his price-performance isn't great. How old is Luongo?

33 and he is signed through 2021-22.

I wouldn't make that deal.

Burke disdains those long contracts, and Lou might have the worst of them (up there with Kovalchuk). It's going to be very interesting to see how this all plays out.

I don't know why Toronto would do it, only makes sense for a potential cup contending team who wants to win in the next 2-3 and are willing to suffer the consequences when he isn't good enough to be a starter in the league and hope for an amnesty clause by then.

Jonny Quick is a beast.

I'm just holding out hope LA Kings management somehow disrespects him or his family in the off-season and he demands a trade. To Toronto.

It could happen...

It's good to see a California-based team advancing.  Perhaps if the Kings can go further, all the way to fhe Cup final  California, namely L.A. will be 'hockey mad' again (same as in '92 when Gretzky led them).

I guess the Kings missed Brian Burke's memo saying that they were supposed to get their asses kicked.

No, they got it... but anytime you have a Quick between the pipes you just ignore those.

I think the Sens are a more apt description of a team squeaking in only to "get their asses kicked". Oh wait..

Also hard to consider a pre-season favorite who under achieved all year an 8th place team who squeaked into the playoffs.  The Kings had the players all year to finish much higher they just didn't perform all year.  Not to mention adding Carter at the deadline didn't hurt.

I know I like to harp on Burke a lot for the dumber things he says but, quite frankly, this opening round has established just how out of touch that made him sound.

The Kings have a lot of talent that everyone has been waiting for them to break out like this.  This win by them wasn't a complete shock (maybe doing so in 5 games is).  They have a lot of good things going for them that them coming out of the West or even hoisting the Cup wouldn't surprise me.

On the flipside, something has to give in Vancouver.  I'd be shocked if Vigneault is back next year.  The goaltending situation will be resolved.  The Hodgson/Kassian deal has looked worse and worse with each passing day.  They are still a very good team, but their window of opportunity is slowly closing so I can't foresee them standing pat during the off-season.

I know, it's incredibly ridiculous.  He makes it sound like just making the playoffs is no great accomplishment.  It's been proven time and again that just getting into the playoffs, you never know what can happen, you give yourself a chance at least.

Burke said he was not interested in trading the kids just to make the playoffs.  He didn't say he didn't want the 8th seed just that he would not trade the future to get it.  You guys have blasted him forever for re-tooling vs re-building and when he won't trade the future for the present you still complain.

Someone asked me this the other night but...if you own a business in downtown Vancouver aren't you kind of happy about this? I mean, hasn't the city and it's fans established that you either want the team to win the cup or get knocked out as soon as possible?

I tend to agree with you Bates on this. Perhaps if Burke felt more comfortable with his goaltending. Really, I think the reality is there were far too many leaks in this team to simply patch a couple holes and prey for a miracle.
