2012/2013 NHL Injury Thread

Pronger gave an interview and talked about the injury that likely ended his career, although he didn't say the word "retirement" (Yahoo Link)
Let's say he does beat the odds and his headaches and nausea somehow go away. Pronger will still be close to 40, and after 2 years of no training, it's highly unlikely he can make it back. Would be a great story to see him come back though.

Bergeron is out with another concussion. The fact that it was triggered by such a nothing hit could be very grave news with regard to how he's going to fare for the rest of his career.

Habs announced Emelin is out for the rest of the season with a torn ligament.  Habs fans blaming Lucic which is hilarious considering Emelin was the one that went in for the body check and got the worst of it.  Lucic just braced himself for the hit.

From what I've seen and heard, it doesn't sound too bad - beyond the obvious fact that it's at least his 4th concussion. So far, it sounds like he'll be back this season.

So I checked the Bruins depth chart for centers (faceoff win%):
Tyler Seguin (51.2%) - currently playing wing
David Krejci (55.1%)
Rich Peverley  (58.0%)
Chris Kelly  (60.6%)
Gregory Campbell (45.8%)
Carl Soderberg, 6'3", 207ibs, 2nd rnd pick, second in SEL scoring - available to play this spring for the Bruins.
Ryan Spooner  (M) .94 ppg in AHL
Alexander Khokhlachev - talented playmaker in AHL, 2nd round pick
Big Christian Hanson - former Leaf UFA on AHL team
Trent Whitfield - in AHL, has a couple of hundred NHL games under his belt - including about 20 playoff games

They'll miss Bergeron as he's arguably their best forward but the Bruins have remarkable depth at center.

Sabres say Tyler Myers suffered broken leg last night and will miss the remainder of season.

That should just about finish them off.

Prior to that, the Sabres had 0.2 of one percent of a chance to make the playoffs. In other words, they were effectively already done.

I need to see more data than "it work" before I'm going to get behind it.  I mean, if it works, that's awesome, but as of right now it is nothing more than gimmick.  All of the data for it at this point is entirely conjecture and assumption.

Heck even Crosby, who missed a lot of time, then came back, went on to play 8 games and then have another concussion.  They start publishing some data on the machine and I'll start to believe it.  However magic machines that treat concussions, autism and CP supposedly.  That's just quackery talk.

Look, when somebody with a vested interest in the success of a product or service calls it a miracle, it's a miracle.  Sheesh, you scientists with your "facts" and your "data".

I really honestly would love for this to be legitimate.  We don't have drugs to fix the symptoms of concussion.  We don't have a way to accurately predict the recovery time.  And despite interesting guidelines we really don't have good strategies to minimize the risk of concussions overall aside from "just don't do stuff".

That being said, there are ZERO published articles to suggest that sensory integration therapy is an effective modality for concussion treatment.  But hey, if you want to know the origin of the machine.

When they got to the church, a still skeptical Kevin entered a room off the main hallway. He recalls seeing a beautiful, warm light illuminate paintings of Christ hanging on the walls. After years of taking a no-nonsense approach to his daughter's impairment, his emotions unfurled. He dropped to the floor sobbing, praying for God's intervention. Please, please, Lord, help MacKenzie.
[...]
?I saw MacKenzie in a spinning machine, strapped in securely. She was getting her brain stimulated in a controlled environment. I saw that machine and the blueprint right in front of me, clear as day,? he recalls.
