Not sure if it's worth it's own thread or not, but....  "The Leafs are in the toughest division in hockey."  True or false?

I'd say for this season it is true.

The Northeast has become what I thought the Atlantic would be in terms of competitiveness.

I's definitely true for this season, and it's not even close really. No other division has 4 teams in the top half of the league. The Northeast has 4 in the top 9.

McKenzie is reporting that Ryan Whitney might be on his way to the Bruins.

He was born in Boston and played for Boston Univ. I felt a couple of years ago that the Bruins would have a great shot at landing him as a UFA this summer. Because of that, the Bruins can probably land him fairly cheaply in terms of talent assets.

Sean Avery --> "Fire this CLOWN, his players hate him and wont play for his BS...."

Taylor Hall has a hat trick in the first period of the oilers / canucks. Schneider pulled, Luongo in 4-0 Oilers. Who has goaltending issues?

Edmonton is so entertaining. I would love to see them make the playoffs for that reason.

And it would really be something to see if all Canadian teams made it (except Calgary)

So the Sharks have apparently asked Clowe to waive his NTC.

Boston, Montreal and NYR the rumoured interested parties.

The real kicker? The speculated price is a 1st AND a good young asset.

11 assists and 0 goals... PASS

With their win, Edmonton is now just one point (along with four other teams) out of a playoff spot for eighth in the Western Conference.  And to think this team was at the bottom not so long ago...

A 2nd and a decent prospect? Yeah, I'd probably do it... But that would be about the same return the Sharks got for Murray and I suspect it wouldn't be enough for them.

In the east, the Caps have climbed to within 2 pts and the Sabres within 3 pts. Flyers & Tampa are within four pts  (and both probability sites give Tampa about a 20% chance to make the playoffs)

With so many teams still having some sort of a shot at the playoffs, it could be a quiet trade deadline with some silly talent prices being paid to pry players loose.

Hard to see who the clear sellers would be. Calgary, Philly, Colorado, Tampa and Florida would be my obvious guesses.

I was thinking last night that we've looked good the last 3 without Mac, so maybe he's expendable and it's the perfect storm in terms of lack of sellers with decent/good available assets and lots of cusp teams needing an extra bump. Columbus/Nashville might overpay?

Any shot of a Mac for Ryan Ellis deal (I wouldn't think so but he's struggled mightily this year)? Will be interesting to see what happens..

Hawks crushing the Wings 5-0 less than  halfway through the second.

Datsyuk absolutely nailed Toews about 5 seconds after the puck was gone and somehow the wings got the PP for delay of game.

Just an observation, the twitterverse and mostly those outside of Toronto have take absolute joy in defecating over all things Maple Leafs for the past eight years.

Now that it appears we are having some moderate success, the absolute outpouring of rage and bile that decry every part of the Leafs team is truly telling.

What's worse for me is they are in part being fuelled by a section of the Maple Leafs own fan base who have been brow beaten so badly that their first instinct is to decry the team as soon as anything less than ideal happens.

SIDNEY CROSBY UPDATE: Out indefinitely after having surgery Saturday for a broken jaw.

EDIT: Paul Martin also out for six weeks after undergoing surgery on a broken hand.
