2012 Toronto Blue Jays Thread

The starting pitching has been great lately - Happ pitched 6 innings, struck out 8 and allowed 1 earned run.

Gose with a good example of what his speed can do, too.  Man he's fast.

So just what exactly has happened to Romero? Is it all just between the ears?

Someone needs to re-introduce him to the strike zone. And, my guess is it's a mechanical and a mental thing. Hopefully, he'll fix things up for next year.

Based on how hitters are just basically ignoring everything but the fastball, I think he might be tipping his pitches, and, since he's never had a great walk rate, it's just been a downward spiral.

You could be right. Fingers crossed for next year but I don't know how comfortable I am with him being the supposed "ace."

Yeah, eight more walks and five more runs is definitely not what the Jays should be getting from him. He was pretty lucky that he only gave up five.

Another day, another loss. This one was given away by the bullpen.

I was going to say "championship calibre" again, but figured that Oliver is entitled to slump a little bit after the season he has had. :)

But I really wish Anthopoulous hadn't said that. Or if I even spelled his name properly. :P

Morrow comes back and takes the loss after a couple unearned runs.

And Bautista gone again with the wrist - I wanted to come on here earlier and question the wisdom of bringing him back at all this season. Wrist injuries tend to mess guys up for a long time if they try to come back too soon, and i was worried that he was going to come back too soon and end up either getting hurt again or more likely not regain his form.

Now we have to play the waiting game again.

Oh, 8-2 Baltimore. Seven losses in a row.

Hey, more good news, Jays fans!

You never know, but sounds like it happened pretty innocently as a mistake.  He was looking good.

Dear baseball gods,

...... next year, give us a respite from all these injuries,
...... deliver us from all the hurt, and...
..... please, let us make the playoffs!!!...

  .....    "Amen"!

:D

I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt but it's still 50 games either way. - I was hoping to see him pitch next month. I'm not sure if he was a lock to do so but as you said, he was looking good.

Next year and for the 10 years after that.  We are more than due for more than just one year of success. :)

Yeah, sounds like he was just not vigilant enough with what he bought, as this appears to be something that other athletes have missed:

Methylhexaneamine is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency for in-competition use. It was added to the master list of banned substances in 2010.

It causes much confusion in the sporting world because it is banned by WADA but it may be included in nutritional supplements in the U.S. because it occurs naturally in geranium oil.

The two policies are at odds and have given rise to a slew of positive tests in the last three years. Eleven Indian athletes were banned for testing positive for methylhexaneamine just before the 2010 Commonwealth Games in their home country. This year, the winner of the Comrades Marathon in South Africa tested positive for the substance.

The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport, which administers amateur-sport drug testing in Canada, issued advisories in 2010 and again in March about the presence of methylhexaneamine in over-the-counter nutritional supplements.

According to its database of news releases, eight athletes, including four major junior hockey players, have been banned for methylhexaneamine in the last three years.

It's kind of hard to get worked up over a player taking a stimulant considering how long amphetamine use was wide spread in baseball and nobody really cared.

50 games for that seems nuts to me.
