2012 Toronto Blue Jays Thread

I must say that seeing that the Jays got routed 12-0 by Baltimore, I am more than a little disappointed that the O's are playing meaningful games in September before the Jays, considering many experts had picked them to finish dead last in the division again.

Jays look like they will win tonight up 6-2 going to the ninth behind Morrow.

What is up with Colby Rasmus though? He has been absolutely terrible! Ever since that 9th inning homer against the Yankees, he has gone 3-35 and has sunk to .225. Something is just not right with him.

Well, he has four hits in the first two wins against the Red Sox, so hopefully he is going to come out of it. :)

Nice to see Lawrie and Arencibia back. Too bad that there was ANOTHER injury to the starting staff, though - Happ with a broken foot. :(

Nice to see the Jays climb out of last place in the East, too. :)

Jays seeking affiliation with Buffalo Bisons...

Escobar... You idiot! - He took the field the day before yesterday with a homophobic slur on his eye-black. At the same time, how the hell did the club and his fellow team mates let him do it? What's next in the gawd-awful train-wreck of a season?

Huh. I just looked that up. I'll be honest my espanol no es bueno but from my limited understanding of the language that is not what I knew that word to mean.

Still wasn't something nice though. I hope something just got lost in translation.

I guess we'll find out more ma?ana at the PC.

I really hope Anthopolous rethinks his "entrenched"list.  I really think Escobar needs to pack his bags.  This sort of of intolerance displayed publically is unforgivable.

I just read about that - what on earth was he thinking? That pretty much signed his way out of town - I can see the fans completely losing respect for him after this.

The words under the 29-year-old Cuban's eyes were "TU ERE MARICON" which can be translated as "You are a ------."

Well that clears that up. Thanks TSN.

Seems reasonable... Except for the fact that it would probably make Escobar the first person in history to either A) have someone apply the eye-black for him or B) put it on himself without using a mirror while completely ignoring what it said. I don't know, I just don't get how this was missed.

A Spanish teacher from U of T agrees with Nik in that the phrase might not exactly mean what everybody thinks it does:

Re. the prank thing... If it was, I'm surprised nobody's stepped up. Maybe someone will at the PC. We'll see.

I mean you really have to kind of lower the bar for what kind of person you think someone is to believe they wrote/wore something like that and really meaning to say "fa---ot" .

How none of his teammates and managers would have not noticed and told him to fix it before he took the field suggests to me it was harmless.  Considering how many Latin American players there are and would know what something like that meant, at least one of them would have stopped it if they felt he was actually intending to say that word, or even if the prank was.

From that Star article above, it could all depend on where the person who wrote it came from. If you take what the auther says as fact, if the perp was Argentinian or Puerto Rican, it could mean "wuss". Dominican and Cuba, it is generally more vulgar.

I hope that's the case here.
