2012 Toronto Blue Jays Thread

Is it just me or does this sound like "Josh Johnson would prefer to play for the Yankees or the Rangers"?

I sure hope all the players acquired would be happy to play for the Jays. Time will tell.

Eh, if it becomes clear he doesn't want to re-sign we'll trade him at the deadline.

I kind of got that impression myself. Kind of frustrating, but what can you do?

Well if we'd had some kind of idea of this before-hand, AA could've tried for a different target. Who I can't say, but the largest amount of the top prospects went towards Johnson no?

Buehrle and Reyes were large salary dumps, so I have to imagine they were available relatively cheaply. Maybe we had to take JJ in order to get the others, I don't know. If he's only here for a year, and doesn't want to be here in that time, I wish we'd picked up a more controllable asset for the price-tag.

I also doubt that we'd trade JJ, regardless of his FA intentions, if we're within a sniff of the playoffs come the deadline.

Not really. That's more his agent saying AA was very cheap prior to this deal so he's not entirely sure he'll hold on to Johnson, given that he (the agent) believes that if Johnson has a good year he will sign on of the largest pitcher's contract in history.

Could be that there was a veiled message in those words, but, it actually seems as though Johnson's agent still can't believe that it was the Jays making the bold move to acquire him in the first place.

If Johnson sticks with the team, and if the team improves, he'll come to like being a Blue Jay and playing at the Centre.  He'll also become more familiar with the city, that's for certain.  What would be not to like?

I heard the agent say the same thing.  I suppose an agent can say what he wants or hope to get what he wants, and of course MLB salaries - or should I say, some free agent deals - defy logic, but while I'm not sure Johnson will be able to attract CC Sabathia - like dollars.  I get it, Barry Zito cashed in, AJ Burnett cashed in, but I think the agent is really putting the cart before the horse in saying that.

How many of the 50 games has he already served?

From wikipedia.... sorry, it is the best I could find so far.

Cabrera's suspension expired as the Giants played in the postseason. He spent the postseason on the Restricted List until the Giants won the 2012 World Series over the Detroit Tigers. Cabrera became a free agent on October 29, 2012.
