2013-2014 NHL Thread

Doesn't look like any Leafs got votes for the Norris or Selke. Not even a fifth place vote for Rielly for the Calder it seems.

No votes for Leafs at all - at least, not for any of the trophies. There may have been some for the end of season all star/rookie teams.

Have you seen the extended Hart voting? All I saw was the top 10. I was wondering if Kessel might pick up a 5th place vote there.

Yeah, I saw it. No votes for Kessel. I thought he'd snag a 4th or a 5th place, but, nope.

That award show has not bolstered my confidence that George Stroumboulopoulos will be anything more than grating as a hockey presenter next year.

Dear god, you didn't watch the thing did you?

Unfortunately.  I was with my Dad and this is the first year he has gotten into hockey in about 15 years so I'm trying to foster that.  It was quite possibly the most painful thing I have ever seen on television.    Def Leppard putting the Stanley Cup upsidedown was more tribute to the NHL than this thing.

Cuba Gooding Jr managed to slip Ass behind the CBC censor though.  I guess it had that going for it.  Also I think he is on some pretty awesome drugs.

Actually, you know what.  I'm not a fan of hockey anymore.

Oh, and the other highlight was marching Rich Peverley out on stage to ask him if he hopes that he will still be able to play hockey some day.  He gave somewhat of an awkward yes and Strombo just let it drop.  Not cool.

I wish I were a hockey writer. I'd write in Mogilny for the Byng.

Of course I'd do that every year as a point of honor.

It's funny you mention that because I think the Byng is almost, sort of, shaping up to be a real award. I mean, with Datsyuk winning it a bunch of times and O'Reilly this year, an award for a solid defensive player who takes virtually no penalties is almost, sort-of a real thing worthy of recognition.

Alright, now that the silliness that is the NHL Awards show is out of the way, hopefully the real business of the off-season can really get going.

True, it's sort of converging on what I thought the Selke was supposed to be.

But anyhow it wasn't "real" when he won it.  IIRC he couldn't be bothered to come in off the beach at Santa Monica to come get it.

Speaking of award voting, I was looking at past Norris winners and saw Scott Niedermayer got a 4th place Selke vote in 2001.
