2013 Draft Day Thread

Brilliant move by Lou.

Yeah. I mean, Vancouver's going to get a very good prospect, but the Devils got a legit starting goalie to take over for Brodeur - and one that will probably fit in really well.

So, I guess that means Schneider will be backing up Brodeur next year? Or is Brodeur gone?

Going to follow the updates on this thread chaps as can't get the live links working and it's not being broadcast in spiffing old England. So Top Gear is on TV and I'm on my Galaxy.

Keep it coming mateys.

Watching Top Gear is way better than watching the draft.

Maybe a platoon type situation. Brodeur's in the final year of his contract and almost certainly retires at the end of the year.

Yeah, true. I didn't realize Brodeur had such a crummy year.

Yea, Brodeur and Schneider next year with Schneids taking over after next season, Brodeur will help mentor him this upcoming season.

Must admit that it was a good start to the new series.

Vancouver trying to save face by doing anything to avoid having to buy out Luongo or give him away for nothing?

Bit of a bonkers move since Luongo seems pretty disillusioned with the Canucks.

Speculation on air is that Vancouver ownership wouldn't pony up the cash for a Luongo buyout which, ultimately, is pretty understandable.

DarrenDreger: How will Luongo react to this trade? Some believe Luongo made it clear he did not want to come back. Drama to follow?

If nothing else, Gillis keeps things entertaining for those of us who are very much not Canucks fans.

The biggest question for NJ going forward was who was going to be Brodeur's successor. The transition is seamless now.

Surely they could have got a very late pick for Luongo though? Or I guess maybe not since they had to ship Schneider out instead.

You know, 99 out of 100 of these post pick GM interviews are as toothless as possible but James Duthie basically just did everything but tell Gillis that he screwed up.

Haha, could Gillis have handled the situation any worse? Drag it on for a year then realize you've botched any chance of getting anything and are forced to trade the younger, cheaper goalie and keep the aging guy you alienated. Yeah they got a good prospect at #9 but I'd still call this situation a huge loss for the Canucks and Gillis.

I sure as sugar wouldn't take that contract on. I wouldn't do it if the Canucks gave me a draft pick.

It's an ongoing gong show with Gillis the clown, and now Torts the joker engineering the crazy train. I'm sure Luongo is in shock right now, and probably pretty upset about Gillis has handled the whole situation.
