The Devils re-signed Cam Janssen, for some reason.

Well, he did double his career goal total last season, so, clearly, he's evolving as a player.

He is without a doubt a hockey player.

He received the standard 2-year extension for enforcers right?

1 year, 2-way deal for $575,000.  Apparently you can do that.

It's also less than either Orr or McLaren got and he outscored both combined last season.  In 24 games.  Orr/McLaren played 81 games.

He has been signed to 5 successive 1-year deals ranging in value from $525,000 to $600,000.  Both Orr/McLaren received higher from the Leafs.

Seriously.  What the hell.

And let's face it - any of them would still be happy to play for 80 to $100 000 instead of a real job.

These bums are getting rich playing 5 minutes a night or watching from the pressbox.

That's not cool. These guys are pros. They work at it every day.  They are in the NHL because NHL GM's saw enough value in them to make them contract offers. No one held a gun to their heads. They are definitely not " bums " !!

53GP 0G 0A  +  7GP 0G 0A  +  22GP 0G 0A  =  82GP 0G 0A
98 straight games without a goal

I believe even you could get a goal in 98 games.

I remember Philippe Dupuis got absolutely crucified on these boards for going 30 games without a point in 11/12, and he was a half-decent penalty killer too.

And...wait for it....cheaper than both Orr/McLaren.

my point is that nobody who has made it into the best hockey league in the world is a " bum "...and I have played hockey with many former pros, even some enforcers, and they stand out above every other hobby player on the ice, so yeah, they would score before me.

This is an anti-signing but looks like Richards (Brad) has been bought out:

I'd rather have him over Bolland.  Good use of cap circumvention by the Rangers (ie: there's no cap recapture on this despite the fact his cap hit since the signing has been <<< his outgoing salary)

Edit: seems I was in the wrong thread:

If their cap hits are the same or similar, then I'd agree. Otherwise I'd prefer Bolland.

I wonder if Nonis is interested, or will become so if Bolland goes to free agency.

I'm sure you can understand that people are using that term or a similar descriptions relative to other NHLers. It should be obvious that even the worst NHLer is miles ahead of the average person in their physical abilities and talent.

I would say that Pronger was a relatively slow skater and not particularly agile. But I've seen him skate live and it was mind-blowing how good a skater he was compared to others. His acceleration compared to even the best amateur on the ice was like he was skating against four year olds and I don't think he was even trying. But compared to someone like Karlsson or Gardiner, he's slow and lacks mobility.

For sure, that is a good way to describe it.
Makes me think of Mason Raymond, making the team on a professional tryout...nearly didn't have an NHL job and look at the things he can do on the ice.

MSmithCanes: Another signing: #Canes bring back Ron Hainsey for three years at $3 million for first 2 and $2.5 million for 3rd. http://t.co/wspvYFj3Ro

Aportzline: #Oilers have signed D Nikita Nikitin. #CBJ will get a 5th-round draft pick.

FriedgeHNIC: Nikitin with EDM is 2 yes, $9M

That's a lot of money for the guy with my favourite name in hockey.

No-Kitin(g).  I guess 4.5 million is a good price for a guy who was treated like a bottom pairing defensemen for the BlueJackets down the stretch.  Go Edmonton!

Edmonton fans will justify it by saying they won't be anywhere near the cap anyway, but the simple fact that their defence is so bad that they felt they had to grossly overpay a guy like Nikitin should speak volumes to how horribly that team has been managed.
