2016 Hall of Fame Inductions

The Selection Committee is meeting today, and we'll have the names at 3:30pm.

This seems like a year without a lock to be inducted. Almost definitely won't see a first-time eligible player get in. Names I've heard thrown around are Lindros, Kariya, Mogilny, Recchi, Andreychuk, Fleury, Osgood, Joseph.

I mean, it HAS to be Lindros' year now, right?

Weak year, but I'd go Lindros, Kariya, Mogilny, Joseph.

Some articles looking at potential candidates:

If I had to choose 4 I'd go with Lindros, Andreychuk, Almo and Cujo. All Leafs baby.

This is as poor a class as there is for Lindros to finally get the call.

Could make an argument that none of those other guys should be in the Hall of Fame, but if I had to guess, I think it will be Recchi and Mogilny along with Lindros.

Yeah for me Lindros is really the only one that truly deserves it this year. The others will be pretty lucky to get in. But I have pretty high standards for who should be in there.

I'm not sure the NHL would agree with you.  What Lindros, along with his family, did to the Quebec Nordiques hasn't yet been forgotten.  We'll see if he gets the nod later today.

Lindros didn't do anything to the Nordiques. The Nordiques did it to themselves.

Oh please, all teams in the NHL have the right to draft the best player available.  This jerk, and his family, were simply being bigots for not wanting to have to play hockey in the heart of French Canada.

Actually, Lindros did the franchise a HUGE favor.  Without that trade, they may not have won the Stanley Cup in their first year in Colorado.  Not only did they win the Stanley Cup, they won it outside of Quebec!

Lindros just had to be patient and sign with them.  He could have won the Stanley Cup as a member of the Colorado Avalanche!  The franchise had the last laugh IMHO.

On the bigotry alone, I don't think Lindros should be admitted to the HHOF.  JMHO.

So you'd keep Pavel Datysuk out of the HHOF too then?

edit: And that's not even getting into whether or not that's why Lindros didn't want to play for Quebec.

They have the right to draft whoever they want. They don't have the right to compel whoever they want to sign a contract. Is Jimmy Vesey a terrible person for what he did? Blake Wheeler?

Lindros said before the draft he wouldn't sign in Quebec, drafting him afterwards was a conscious decision they knew the risks of.

He played for the Detroit Red Wings.  Helped win them the Stanley Cup.  So, he wants to go home to Mother Russia early.  How is this comparable to Lindros?

I might add that Pavel informed the Red Wings of his desire to go home prior to signing his current contract.  If I recall correctly, it was Detroit that insisted on the extra year on his current contract against his wishes.

So, Vesey and Wheeler are refusing to play hockey in Quebec too?  Who knew.

Didn't Wheeler play by the rules of free agency?  Isn't Vesey about to do the same thing?  Much different as I see it.

That's not what I was referring too. Google "Pavel Datsyuk bigot" if you want. Lots of hockey players are crappy people. That hasn't stopped them before from being recognized for their greatness.

And as I edited my last post to say, there's really no concrete evidence that suggests bigotry had anything to do with Lindros not wanting to play in Quebec.

So it only matters if it's Quebec?

What Lindros did was in the rules too. You don't have to sign a contract you don't want to. That's all he did. They did the exact same thing.

Yeah. He was reportedly willing to play for Montreal. He just didn't want to play for an awful Nordiques team that was already known to be in a poor financial state.

Eric Lindros is a 2016 Hockey Hall of Famer, according to @RealKyper

The HHOF. A case study in how much credit you should give someone for eventually getting easy questions right.
