Allaire won't be back

I was so relieved to hear this... hopefully the Leafs will hire someone who is willing to work with the goalies to expand on their natural abilities and style.... instead of imposing his own pre-historic non sense.

Well, it's news. Nice resume but I can't say he gave me much reason to miss him.

Given all that has happened with the goaltenders, this is probably a good time for a change.. probably for both sides.  Just the timing is what isn't great.

Allaire didn't really have to leave with guns blazing, but whatever. I don't meet many francophones who have trouble being open and honest about their feelings. :)

Seriously though, we're gonna need a goalie coach ASAP before the season starts! (in 2013)

Interesting that he's taking a swing at the coaching staff. I wonder if there's much difference between how things were under Carlyle versus Wilson. Given that Allaire was previously with the Ducks, I would assume that he's familiar with how Carlyle works...

x2. I can't see anywhere where he has proved his worth. And no, I'm nowhere near saying he is the reason for Reimer's ascension. If Reimer
lit the world on fire then I'd be willing to say Allaire is the reason. The fact is is that our goaltending has been underwhelming for years even with a poor defensive system.

More issues and challenges here than what they had in Anaheim could have resulted in a lot more internal chatter, opinions, comments, etc. that rubbed him the wrong way.  The challenge with a big management group and coaching staff with a lot of strong personalities is bound to develop friction when things are not going right.  Since the goaltending was the biggest player-related focus of most criticism, Allaire was probably taking it on all sides from both inside and outside the org.  Can't be good for the ego.

So if another goaltending coach can't salvage Reimer or Scrivens at what point do we say it's halfway the player's fault and partially in front of a poor defensive system? I for one will be watching Jonas very closely in Detroit to make that judgment.

I would say it would take most of a season to make that judgment. My issue with Allaire stems from Toskala - and that's primarily due to the fact that Toskala was, at one point anyway, a decent goalie and it appeared to me as an outsider that Allaire was trying to take Toskala and change him into a different style completely - and to do that to a guy who has a certain style for 20+ years is pretty difficult. I do believe that Gus will do far better in Detroit - partially because of the team and because he will
not be inundated with pressure as in Toronto.

Huh. Didn't realize what was going on with Allaire. Guess I didn't pay close enough attention. However, him leaving because of the "too many cooks" and other conflicts among the management doesn't give me a rosy feeling. :(

Kyper's money is on Cujo;

Nick Kypreos ‏@RealKyper
With #Leafs goal coach Allaire on way out my bet is Curtis Joseph will be next goalie coach. Can anyone think of better guy who's available?

Maybe that is part of the reson Allaire left the Ducks and came to Toronto -- maybe he did not like working with Carlyle.

This really just sounds like Kipper lobbying for a friend to get the gig.

That's kind of how I read it given that they have history already. If things weren't working out to begin with, I suppose it could have been the straw that broke the camel's back.

Toskala was a mess as a Leaf well before Allaire was hired. He didn't even spend a full season as a Leaf with Allaire.
