Are we ALL ready for some Leafs hockey?

It was kind of nice not being called an idiot because of the hockey team I chose to follow. Guess those days are over now.

Bar popping in here to check the Blue Jays thread the odd time I've not been here properly in a while.

In a strange way I can't say I missed the NHL/Leafs. Been watching a lot of European games, some AHL, even attended an ECHL game.

However now it's back I'm looking forward to watching the games and posting in the game threads again, so bring it on!

My only complaint is I'm heading to Berlin this weekend to see two games and now I won't get to boo Briere!

Is anyone of note injured? I heard Gardiner might have had a concussion?

He's been out with a concussion since well before Christmas.  We were at the game on Boxing Day at the ACC and he still wasn't playing.  Bummer.  My daughter was really looking forward to seeing him.

He's been out since December 8th with a concussion. He's been doing some off-ice stuff the last few days but hasn't practiced yet and isn't cleared to.

I read 5 divisional games per team with the balance being within the conference. No East vs. West (obviously not confirmed.).

I've heard it will be 7 division games per team.  No east vs west.

I really hate to be the negative Nelly, or Debbie downer here, but a quick start to this season is now already in jeopardy with what MLSE pulled off today.

If the Leafs cant make a significant change to their roster (ala Roberto Luongo) and bolster morale before opening night, I'm worried this team may go off the rails quickly to start the season.

The morale of the players after the Burke firing, and the questions of what Nonis might do to the roster will add weight to these guys shoulders. Add that to the pressure of getting off to a good start, getting used to a relatively new coach, learning a new style, and the fact they may not be getting the help they need in net as hoped. It doesn't look too good right now.

And what about the two young goalies? Unless a guy like Luongo is acquired at this point, the glaring media focus and subsequent pressure on these kids will be tremendous, if it wasn't already.

I really hope I'm wrong here guys, but this all adds up to some major obstacles to overcome early in a shortened season.

I don't buy this argument at all. The Maple Leafs have a large management team in place that are actively involved in all Leafs transactions. Except for the loss of Burke, the management team is identical to what it was last season. conversations with other teams will continue on as before.

My point was less about the current state of management and more about the disruptive shuffle they pulled off yesterday. Im concerned about the negative media attention it caused, and the sudden scrutiny of the team that could start a ripple effect heading into this season.

The media is already turning this firing into a Luongo trade refusal on Burkes part. What if Nonis doesn't bring him in now, or some other team gets him? Or he over pays drastically to get Luo? Either way this plays out it won't sit well with the media, and it will effect the players who need to focus on the start of the season.

Nick Kypreos pretty much said the same thing on Sportsnet yesterday. It was something along the lines of "don't underestimate the effect this will on the players at the start of the season." It has me nervous, since he's a former player I'd take what he says into account.

Any chance Gary offers us fans the Centre Ice package for free this season?  ;D

I think that would be the least he could do considering all the anger and disappointment he's caused us fans during the lockout !

Yes, as I've described here in my last few posts, there is much reason for concern!

That would be awesome, it would really show how "sorry" he is for the lockout, but I doubt it will happen, maybe for free in the US, but not a chance it will be free or any discount in Canada.

But, he said he was sorry on TV. Isn't that good enough for you?  ;)

Not a chance. Nor would the PA be on board with that. That means less revenue for them as well.
